The Korean side was probably my favorite. Their bibimbap had deeply beefy flavor, house made gochujang, crisp vegetables and a perfectly cooked egg, with a really nice balance of richness, spice and freshness. Their $55 sushi special gets you five rolls, and the fish quality stood out. On the Chinese side, the sesame shrimp was my favorite, with classics like lemon chicken and General Tso’s made to order. Los Vecinos 📍6031 Callaghan Rd, San Antonio, TX 78228 I’ve eaten a LOT of chorizo and papa tacos around San Antonio, and Los Vecinos just took the top spot. It’s a small, family-owned Mexican restaurant in San Antonio where just about everything is made from scratch, with a menu pulling from generations of family recipes. The chicharrón aguachiles are what brought me in, and after calling around to 20 different aguachile spots, Los Vecinos is the only place I found in San Antonio making them. Buffalo Blue 📍231 S Alamo St, San Antonio, TX 78205 Buffalo Blue sits right inside La Villita along the San Antonio River Walk, which is exactly the kind of location I’d usually approach with a little skepticism. What stood out to me was how much of the menu is actually being made from scratch in the kitchen, from hand-breaded chicken and chicken fried steak to fire-grilled fajitas and fresh-baked pretzels. The chicken fried steak and fried chicken sandwich were my favorites, and the fajitas were genuinely good too. They also offer kids eat free five days a week, which makes this a pretty solid option for families looking for somewhere to eat downtown near the River Walk.
