Losoya’s 📍4455 Walzem Rd, San Antonio, TX 78218 📍13444 West Ave, San Antonio, TX 78216 Losoya’s has been one of our regular San Antonio spots for a while, but this was my first visit to their new location on Walzem. They call themselves the House of Chicharrón, and the menu definitely lives up to the title. They’re probably best known for their massive chicharrón molcajetes, but my personal favorite is the chilaquiles divorciados, loaded with chicharrón and covered in salsa verde and salsa roja. The Chicha Vasa is another favorite. A cup full of guacamole and stuffed with giant, crispy pieces of chicharrón - sometimes simple really is better. They’ve also got chicharrón mini tacos on some seriously good nixtamal corn tortillas, breakfast tacos at 3 for $4.99, and a big selection of aguas frescas. If they have the pepino con limón, get it. Family owned, family operated, and now serving San Antonio from two locations. Downtown San Antonio still has a few spots that haven’t changed much over the years. That’s exactly the appeal. 📍Candy’s Old Fashioned Burgers 115 Plaza de Armas San Antonio, TX 78205 (right behind City Hall) @Birdie! keeps it classic and does everything to order. Burgers, chicken fried steak, seafood. All made right there on the spot. We went with doubles and triples across the board. Roy Rogers with bacon and cheddar, jalapeño cheddar, and the mushroom swiss. All solid and consistent. It goes beyond burgers too. Hand breaded shrimp and catfish, plus a chicken fried steak with that classic cream gravy. It’s not trying to be trendy and modern. It just does the classics the right way. San Antonio’s only all you can eat BBQ spot is D-Willie’s, and yes, it is actually worth it. Brisket, ribs, house made jalapeño cheddar or regular sausage, chicken, pulled pork, turkey, chopped BBQ, and all the classic sides you can handle for just $28. If AYCE isn’t your vibe, they’ve got 1,2, & 3 meat BBQ plates, massive Dino rib plates, brisket nachos, and loaded baked potatoes - all at a surprisingly solid value.
