Melatonin for Hair Loss: More Than Just a Sleep Supplement Melatonin is best known for regulating sleep, but it also has antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties that may be relevant to hair follicle biology and the hair-growth cycle. While much of the direct clinical research in hair loss has studied topical melatonin, I personally prefer oral melatonin because of its systemic effects and ease of use. That said, we do not yet have strong clinical evidence showing that oral melatonin directly improves androgenetic alopecia, so I view it as a potential supportive addition rather than a primary hair-loss treatment. The science around melatonin and the hair follicle is interesting, and I think it deserves more research. #HairLoss #Melatonin #HairGrowth #HairScience #HealthyHair

Does creatine actually cause hair loss? As a hair transplant surgeon, I get asked this question constantly. And my answer is simple: Stop worrying about creatine causing hair loss! For years, people have been afraid that creatine increases DHT, the hormone responsible for androgenetic alopecia. This concern largely came from a small 2009 study that reported increased DHT levels but never actually measured hair loss. Now, we finally have better evidence. A 2025 randomized controlled trial published in the Journal of the International Society of Sports Nutrition followed participants for 12 weeks, comparing creatine supplementation with a placebo. The researchers found: * No significant differences in DHT levels. * No significant differences in hair density. * No significant differences in hair thickness or other measured hair-health parameters. My takeaway? There is currently no convincing scientific evidence that creatine causes or accelerates hair loss. While larger, longer-term studies would be helpful, I see no reason for my patients to avoid creatine solely because they’re worried about going bald. Keep lifting. Keep taking your creatine. Stop stressing about your hair. 💪 #Creatine #HairLoss #HairTransplant #HairLossResearch #MalePatternBaldness

Hair can start changing before your period ever stops. Perimenopause can bring shifts in density, texture, and shedding, but hormones aren’t always the whole story. If you’re noticing changes, it’s worth looking at the full picture instead of assuming it’s “just menopause.” 💚 #Perimenopause #FemaleHairLoss #HairShedding #HairHealth #RootMD
