Celebrating National #AnimalFosterAppreciationWeek with a BIG MEOW to our kitten fosters! 🎉 The ASPCA Los Angeles Kitten Foster Program takes in 50-75 kittens WEEKLY from our overwhelmed shelter partners, and to say yes to every kitten in need, we rely heavily on our incredible network of fosters who consistently show up, Thanks to our fosters, we were able to take in our 15,000th kitten, Juno, a landmark milestone for our now 10-year-old program! Fostering not only dramatically improves the well-being of these vulnerable kittens, but it also opens up space at our partner shelters, allowing them to save another animal in need. By helping one, we help many; that's #TheRescueEffect! The best way to celebrate National #AnimalFosterAppreciationWeek is to become one yourself! Visit aspca.org/TheRescueEffect to find a participating shelter near you.

Surrendered to the ASPCA by an overwhelmed owner, nobody could've expected 5-year-old Tiki to become the viral internet sensation he now is. Through the hard work and dedication of @muddypawsrescuenyc and foster Isabel Klee (@Isabel Klee ), Tiki grew into an icon for resiliency and bravery. Now settled in with adopters Aubrie and Vince and his canine siblings Meyer and Gaia, Tiki's family is leaning into his popularity to help as many animals as possible (@tikiplustwo). His tiny face serves as a continuous reminder that by adopting or fostering, you're helping the next pet in need, which is what we call #TheRescueEffect. Let your voice be heard on National #ILoveHorses Day and urge your legislators to support the SAFE Act! Each year, thousands of American horses are transported across our borders to be slaughtered for meat. The SAFE Act would PERMANENTLY CLOSE the horse slaughter pipeline by banning the slaughter of horses for human consumption in the U.S. and banning the export of horses abroad for that same purpose. Visit the link in bio (aspca.org/SavetheHorses) to join us today!

HELP HORSES: Horses have captured American hearts for generations, but all horses, whether wild or beloved companions, are at risk of ending up in the horse slaughter pipeline because of a loophole in federal law. Every year, tens of thousands of horses fall into the wrong hands and are trucked over our borders to be killed for human consumption. Demand Congress to close the loophole and protect American horses: aspca.org/helphorses

🎹🎶Ya like jazz? Carbon sure hopes so; he's practicing his scales, hoping to impress you! We didn't know we had a budding wonder kid on our hands at our New York City Adoption Center until Carbon met a piano in his foster home. While most cats prefer playing with toy mice, Carbon much prefers to work on his concerto in hopes of making it big (@nyphilharmonic? @carnegiehall? Who knows where his skills might take him!). Until then, though, Carbon is hoping to find an adopter to enjoy everyday life with, including petting sessions and birdwatching. He is only 2 years old after all, he has his whole life ahead of him! If you're ready to bring a little more whimsy into your life, Carbon might be your perfect tune (piano not required). Don’t wait until a disaster is happening to prepare you and your pet. September is National Preparedness Month, making it the perfect time to build or update your pet's emergency go bag. The ASPCA has teamed up with @fedex to share what essential items to pack in your go bag in case of an emergency. Prepping a go bag in advance not only helps you evacuate quicker, but also reduces stress in an already stressful situation. You should pack items like: 🐾 7-10 days of food and water, with bowls 🐾 A collar with an ID tag, as well as any other walking equipment 🐾 Toys and a blanket just for your pet 🐾 A 2-week supply of medication and a digital copy of your pet's medical records 🐾 A crate and any bathroom supplies We’re grateful to our friends at @fedex, whose support helps our National Field Response Team transport emergency supplies and assist animals in need across the country. Learn more about what to pack at the link in our bio 🧡

Rescued from Disaster, Bergen Finds His Home with First Responders🚒 When historic flooding hit West Virginia in February 2025, local animal shelter Kanawha-Charleston Humane Association (KCHA) requested the ASPCA’s assistance to help with an emergency transport of 41 dogs. That’s when we met Bergen and his littermates, who were safely on their way to the ASPCA Cruelty Recovery Center (CRC). Bergen was a fairly healthy pup when he arrived at the CRC, so after a neuter surgery, he was ready to find a home. It didn’t take long for firefighter and paramedic couple Amber and Delaney to spot his photo online and submit an application. One meeting was all it took for Bergen to find his people. Now named RVCA after Amber’s favorite brand, this pup spends his days playing with his canine siblings, stealing socks, exploring the firehouse and bringing joy to his family. This Disaster Preparedness Month, RVCA’s story is a reminder that emergencies can happen at any time and to anyone. Having a plan for your pets, from emergency supplies to visible pet alerts at home, can help keep every member of your family safe. To read RVCA’s full story and get pet disaster preparedness tips, visit the link in our bio! This story is presented by our friends at @fedex, who help support the ASPCA’s National Field and Disaster Response efforts to assist animals in need, like Bergen. #ASPCA #ASPCAImpact

#TheRescueEffect is rockin' and rollin' even harder now that @Bush frontman Gavin Rossdale has hit the stage 🎶🎸 Inspired by his own adopted dog, Kaya, we’re excited to announce Gavin as an ambassador for the ASPCA’s national adoption campaign – #TheRescueEffect! From August through October, The Rescue Effect highlights the lifesaving impact that pet adoption and fostering have on shelters by freeing up space and resources to help more animals in need. With over 500 participating organizations, these shelters and rescues are full of pets of all sizes, ages and personalities who are looking for loving homes. Gavin adopted Kaya in 2025 from Los Angeles Animal Services, a participating Rescue Effect shelter partner, ultimately creating a ripple throughout the shelter system that allowed them to support even more LA animals. Once homeless, Kaya is now Gavin's beloved companion who even accompanies him on tour and during photoshoots – just like this one! “That’s what I love about The Rescue Effect," said Gavin Rossdale. "The idea that one choice to help an animal can have an impact that reaches so much further." How Fostering Allowed for Rocket’s Safe Landing 🚀 In mid-January 2024, a pet owner brought their miniature Australian Shepherd into Veterinary Emergency and Referral Group, a 24-hour emergency and specialty veterinary hospital and ASPCA partner. Despite noticing swelling, the owner had left the dog’s muzzle on for over 36 hours, resulting in extensive necrotic wounds around the entire circumference of his muzzle and jaw. After roughly a month of receiving care at VERG, the dog, later named Rocket, was transferred over to the ASPCA Animal Recovery Center. Due to the severity of his condition, an NYPD investigation was launched, ultimately resulting in the ASPCA being awarded custody of Rocket. When Rocket came into our care, he was still facing a long road to recovery. After months of medical care, behavioral support and healing, one thing became clear: Rocket needed the comfort of a home to truly begin to decompress. That’s when Elena, an ASPCA foster and volunteer, stepped in. What started as a temporary placement became the safe landing Rocket needed, and eventually, Elena made the decision to adopt Rocket. This National #AnimalFosterAppreciationWeek, we’re celebrating the lifesaving impact foster caregivers like Elena make every day. When one animal gets the chance to heal in a home, it creates the space for another to get care, safety and a new beginning. We call that #TheRescueEffect.
