So much of what gets judged from the outside as laziness, overreacting, inconsistency, or not caring can be tied to self-regulation. ADHD can affect attention, effort, emotion, time management, follow-through, working memory, and impulse control. And when those struggles are misunderstood for years, the emotional cost can be heavy. For some people with ADHD, the problem was never a lack of caring. They are carrying pressure, shame, exhaustion, and the constant feeling of trying to catch up. A common misunderstanding about ADHD is that its symptoms are choices. Forgetting can be read as not caring, a missed deadline as not trying, and difficulty starting a task as laziness ❤️‍🩹 ADHD can affect working memory, time perception, task initiation, and emotional regulation. Difficulties in these areas can be mistaken for a lack of effort. Getting something done does not show what it took. Extra time, repeated reminders, and help from others may be part of what made it possible. Trying harder is not a treatment. Reminders, written steps, and routines can support daily tasks. Treatment may also include medication, therapy, or both, depending on individual needs. And a late diagnosis does not mean the symptoms started late. October is ADHD Awareness Month. ❤️‍🩹 Share this with someone who may need it or save it for a future appointment. Dysautonomia can disrupt functions the body usually regulates automatically, including heart rate, blood pressure, digestion, and temperature ❤️‍🩹 Postural orthostatic tachycardia syndrome (POTS) is one form of dysautonomia, not another name for all of it. With POTS, standing in line, taking a hot shower, or concentrating on a conversation can become difficult. The impact can extend to school, work, and everyday plans, even when someone appears well. For Dysautonomia Awareness Month, let's make understanding go beyond recognizing the name. Ask what support would help. Respect the need to sit down or change plans. Support should not depend on someone looking unwell ❤️‍🩹 Share this with someone who may need it or save it for a future appointment.
