I really wish people knew that bribing their dog with treats gives a false sense of attention. The dog is not actually paying attention to you but to the food it’s going to get. And why wouldn’t they. But there is a better way to be important and relevant to your dog. And it starts with having them wait for permission to do the most basic of tasks such as eat their meals and exit doorways. This also teaches impulse control and patience…something nearly every dog needs more of. In our board and train program, dogs need permission to do nearly everything and we as their handlers/trainers, become relevant to them in a matter of days.
