Your Wi-Fi sucks, but it’s probably not your internet speed, it’s your old devices clogging up the airwaves. Here’s how to fix it: 1. Separate legacy devices onto a dedicated 2.4 GHz SSID 2. Isolate them with VLANs if your gear supports it 3. Rate-limit that VLAN, they don’t need full bandwidth 4. Replace the worst offenders (your 2009 printer isn’t worth it) You don’t need more bandwidth, you need fewer Wi-Fi leeches. While everyone at the Cincinnati Open was watching the battle on the court, I got to walk through the network rooms supporting the other one: the systems behind ticket scans, tap-to-pay, video walls, player services, and public Wi-Fi that help make the Cincinnati Open one of the best tennis experiences in the world. Across 40 acres, that network includes 17 miles of fiber, 100 Cisco Catalyst 9300-M switches, 320 Meraki access points, and a high-availability pair split between two network rooms.
