Some technical interviews are incorporating real-world or practical testing periods where you're given a task with free reign on how to solve it. Mike believes that if the job posting or interviewer has mentioned AI or agentic coding at all, you should use AI to help you solve any roadblocks you might hit. You might feel obligated to use more traditional troubleshooting like Googling, Stack Overflow, or Reddit posts - but they might want to see how you would use AI in the actual job. #technicalinterview #techjobs #softwareengineer #ai #fyp
If you don't have any expertise, neither do your prompts. People think that they can just go to an AI and generate a website, and while that's true, there's no precision to what you're asking and therefore what's being generated. Are you sure you want the website coded in that language? Maybe you don't care, but you have to make sure it's compatible with your host of choice. It's decisions and details like this that separate a prompt from a beginner vs a prompt from someone who's experience in the trade. When you have experience you know what databases you like you work with, what coding languages you understand best, and what tools will best suit your (or your customer's) needs. You don't want to make something that costs more in hosting and is difficult to maintain - you want to make something that will last and will help your customer with their needs. Even when working with AI, your personal expertise matters. #learntocode #softwareengineer #coding #chatgpt #fyp
Don't let the AI generate all your code, read it and follow your curiosity. If you aren't sure what the AI is doing somewhere, ask it to explain it to you. Take it a step further and ask it to overcomment a version of the code in a separate file, or to generate a PDF for you explaining what's going on. Continue on with that curiosity and start to go beyond what the AI feeds you, start reading guides, watching YouTube videos, catching up on MDNs - slowly but surely you're building your own skillset while still using AI coding.
