A night I will never forget. 🏆🇯🇲 On September 25, 2026, I received the news that I had been selected as a JCI Jamaica Ten Outstanding Young Persons (TOYP) 2026 Award recipient for Excellence in Economic and Entrepreneurial Accomplishment. Tonight, holding this award, I am reminded that the journey is always bigger than the moment of recognition. This honour represents years of learning, research, service, sacrifice, uncertainty, perseverance and, above all, a commitment to use whatever knowledge, opportunity or platform I have to make a meaningful contribution to Jamaica. I am deeply grateful to JCI Jamaica for recognising my work and for creating a platform that celebrates young Jamaicans who are determined to lead, serve and build. I accept this award with humility, but also with renewed responsibility. Recognition is not the destination. It is a reminder to keep going. To everyone who believed in me, encouraged me, opened a door, challenged me, prayed for me, supported my work or simply reminded me not to give up, thank you. From economics and research to public service, youth development and community advocacy, I remain committed to one principle: If I am blessed with the opportunity to rise, I must use that opportunity to help someone else rise too. This one is for the journey. This one is for the people who helped me along the way. And this one is for Jamaica. Jamaica collected J$31.3 billion less than the Government budgeted between April and August. Does that mean the economy is in trouble? Not so fast. Consumption taxes like GCT are actually running ahead of plan. The biggest holes are in company tax and non-tax revenue, and part of that is timing. Some companies paid early, a housing trust transfer came late, and the environmental levy waited six months for legislation. There are real warning signs too, in tourism, mining and formal jobs. And the bigger question is whether the budget was built on assumptions the economy was never going to meet. I went through it line by line. What do you think: did the economy miss the budget, or did the budget miss the economy?
