What happens when you stop telling history from the perspective of the people who held the power? A Women’s History of the Modern World by Rosalind Miles digs into the history we were taught—and the women whose stories were too often pushed into the margins. From law and marriage to work, sexuality, violence, politics, and power, Miles shows how deeply women’s lives have been shaped by the institutions around them. Some history informs you. Some history pisses you off. The best history makes you question what you thought you already knew. This is one of those books. #booktok #bookrecs #womenshistorymonth #hiddenhistory #historytok

What if the story of Black America’s wealth wasn’t just about struggle—but about strategy, ambition, and building fortunes against the odds? Black Fortunes by Shomari Wills tells the remarkable stories of six Black entrepreneurs who became millionaires in the era following the Civil War, navigating racism, segregation, and economic barriers while building businesses and wealth. These aren’t just stories about money. They’re stories about resilience, entrepreneurship, power, and Black economic history. Black Fortunes by Shomari Wills For anybody interested in Black history, entrepreneurship, wealth, and the people who built something when the deck was stacked against them. #booktok #bookrecs #blackhistory #wealth #historytok

Horrible Women in History: Irma Grese Irma Grese was a German SS guard who served at several Nazi concentration camps during World War II, including Auschwitz-Birkenau and Bergen-Belsen. She became infamous for her brutal treatment of prisoners and was convicted of war crimes following the war. At just 22 years old, Grese was sentenced to death and executed in 1945. Her story is a disturbing reminder that cruelty, oppression, and participation in atrocities aren’t exclusively male phenomena. History gets uncomfortable when we look at all the people who helped make systems of terror function. #historytok #evilpeople #learnhistoryontiktok #ww2 #history

You ever hear a word that sounds small until you actually understand what the fuck it means? Petabyte. One petabyte is roughly a thousand terabytes. And a terabyte is a thousand gigabytes. So when Sam Altman says OpenAI is going through petabytes of AI agent activity logs, we’re not talking about somebody scrolling through a few hard drives looking for something weird. We’re talking about an ocean of digital activity. And here’s the part that really fucks with my head: The AI isn’t the one sitting there reading all this shit. Humans couldn’t realistically sit down and examine petabytes of machine activity line by line. So what do you do? You use AI to help investigate what AI did. Think about that for a second. The detective is another AI. And here’s where I think people aren’t appreciating the scale of what’s happening. We’re still thinking about computers in human terms. “Oh, I’ve got a terabyte hard drive.” That’s enormous to us. But these systems can spawn agents, run thousands of processes, access websites, generate text, call tools, exchange messages, analyze information—and do it at machine speed. In one OpenAI incident, researchers reconstructed activity involving roughly 1,200 agents communicating with each other and tens of thousands of messages in about a week. (The Washington Post) And that’s the part I want you to really sit with. We’re talking about AI that is still, relatively speaking, in the fucking cradle. We’re watching the infancy of this technology. And even the infants are already producing and interacting with information at scales that are becoming difficult for humans to comprehend directly. So forget what AI looks like today. Ask yourself what happens when the baby grows up. Because if this is AI in the cradle… we haven’t even seen the child learn to run yet. #ai #openai #petabyte #crazyworld
