It looks weird, but it’s so cool! NASA Super Guppy opening up to show off the cargo hold. This is the only 1 of 5 Super Guppy aircraft that were produced by Aero Spacelines, and this is serial number 0004. Once used by Airbus to transport aircraft components, NASA acquired this aircraft in 1997 to replace its previous Super Guppy that had been retired in 1991. This aircraft has transported components for the ISS, the heat shield for Artemis, and has served to transport up to two T-38 Talon trainer aircraft. The nose gear is from a Boeing 707 and is installed ‘backwards.’ The main gear are from the B-52. And the engines are the same as those used on the P-3 Orion, and the propellers are borrowed from the C-130. #nasa #super #guppy #space #airplane
