Islam doesn’t promise us a life without hardship simply because we believe in Allah. Instead, Allah teaches us that we will be tested in different ways — through difficulty, loss, fear, patience, and uncertainty. But there is something beautiful about Islam: ease is not always something that comes after the hardship. Sometimes, ease exists within the hardship itself. Allah says: فَإِنَّ مَعَ الْعُسْرِ يُسْرًا “Indeed, with hardship comes ease.” — Qur’an 94:5 Notice the word مَعَ (ma‘a) — with, not after. So we don’t always have to wait for the difficulty to disappear before we experience relief. With sabr (patience), faith, and trust in Allah, we can find strength, peace, lessons, and blessings even while we are still going through the storm.
