Logistics and supply chain at MSF takes teamwork. And for supply chain coordinator Urshula Edwards, the team is one of the reasons she keeps coming back to work on MSF projects. Full episode of the Humanitarian Lens — link in bio.
Sharing some general info on a few examples of contraceptive care from a nurse at one of our clinics in Kenya: Different people need different options, and no single contraceptive method is suitable for everyone. That’s why access to a full range of contraceptive methods matters, including condoms, pills, implants, intrauterine devices, fertility awareness methods, permanent methods, and emergency contraception. Last year, Doctors Without Borders teams provided nearly 931,000 contraceptive consultations worldwide. #creatorsearchinsights #healthtok #birthcontrol
The cholera outbreak of 2024 and 2025 in Sudan, the largest and most widespread in the country’s modern history, was driven by human conflict, not seasonal weather patterns. MSF data shows the epidemic followed the war: Clusters in Port Sudan, El Gedaref, Khartoum, and Kosti appeared during dry periods, outside the rainy season entirely. Rainfall may have magnified this epidemic, but violence caused it. Although the country has experienced waves of cholera over the years, this most recent outbreak was different. Water and electricity infrastructure were deliberately attacked, chlorine ran short because of supply chain disruptions, blackouts destroyed treatment plants and hospitals alike, and funding shortfalls, including the suspension of water trucking, compounded the crisis. MSF's operational data offers one of the few verifiable pictures of how this epidemic unfolded, because little else exists amidst the ongoing conflict. National surveillance has collapsed under insecurity, staff displacement, and resource shortages. #TalkAboutSudan
Children need to be protected and allowed to live, play, grow and HEAL.
A message from an MSF midwife: Everyone deserves access to safe, respectful health care. Every year, around 73 million abortions occur worldwide, and nearly half are considered unsafe. Access to safe abortion care can prevent unsafe abortions and complications, and also uphold bodily autonomy.
“People say that the illness is a hoax to make money. That’s not it. It’s a disease — it really does exist. We saw Mom’s symptoms,” says Daniel, who lost his mother to the Ebola disease. Processing the loss of a loved one is always difficult, but people like Daniel are being forced to do so amidst an ongoing outbreak. Doctors Without Borders/Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) colleagues like Franck are there to help navigate this exceptionally challenging moment, because to respond to this outbreak effectively, it’s essential that people understand the disease and be actively involved in the response. Many people in Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) have been questioning the sudden surge of resources and attention directed toward Ebola disease, when many of their basic needs have gone unmet for decades. This fear, frustration, and uncertainty can lead to distrust toward humanitarian and health organizations. When Franck explains how Ebola spreads and the importance of disinfecting and destroying anything that could continue to be contagious for days to come, he and Daniel are containing the disease, and preventing even further loss.
Hope, empathy, and speaking out are all needed right now. From Dr. Aqsa Durrani, a pediatrician, epidemiologist, and board member of Doctors Without Borders/MSF USA: "I take hope in the fact that the Palestinian colleagues that I worked with are amongst the most compassionate and, yeah, just amazing people that I've ever worked with. And I think that who am I to have any despair if they come to work every day and provide care so beautifully, so kindly, so compassionately, and that they still have some hope. So if they have hope, who are we not to have hope? Because they're, you know, they're the ones who are living it." She shared this on the latest episode of our podcast, The Humanitarian Lens, talking about what she saw while working in a field hospital in Gaza, and what Palestinian humanitarian workers are facing. #hunger #humanitarianaid #palestine Let Gaza live.
Even one patient recovering from the Ebola disease is a reason to celebrate. But ending an outbreak takes much more. Swipe to see how our teams on the ground in DR Congo are working to prevent transmission and help end the outbreak once and for all. Drop a ❤️ in the comments to show your support!
🎙️ New video podcast alert! We just launched The Humanitarian Lens, a new podcast from Doctors Without Borders/Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) USA, which explores some of the world’s most urgent humanitarian emergencies through the personal experiences of our aid workers. On this first episode, host and MSF USA CEO Avril Benoît discusses the crisis in Sudan with Dr. Mohammed Fadlalla, a physician who has completed multiple assignments with MSF over the past five years, most recently in Omdurman, Sudan. Sudan is currently convulsed by a conflict that has been raging for more than two years, and the fighting is fueling the world’s worst humanitarian crisis. In this episode you’ll hear first-hand from Dr. Fadlalla about the lifesaving work MSF teams are doing under some of the most difficult conditions imaginable. When most people think about Doctors Without Borders, they picture doctors and nurses working in conflict zones. But behind every consultation and every surgery, there's a logistics and supply chain team making medical care possible. Sometimes that means getting supplies where there are no roads and having a team of women carry them through swamp water to reach our boats. Check out the latest episode of our podcast the Humanitarian Lens with supply chain coordinator Urshula Edwards. She tells us about the work logisticians do: building hospitals, getting medication where it needs to go, and keeping our teams running.
