Just a little update…
This is not the kind of post any cat parent wants to make… But this evening we had to say good bye to my familiar. My first born. My almost 16 year old. My rock. My Onyx. February 14th 2011 I drove my little Honda to Fort Fairfield Maine, in a snow storm, to adopt this little black cat I found on Craigslist for free. From then on, he was my little companion. My center. He helped me through moves, relationship and friendship changes. He celebrated with me, and mourned with me. He was my little Jerky-Mc-JerkFace. A little asshole. But he was my little asshole. He hated affection. If you tried to give him love, he would Smack-Attack you. But if he was sick, and you were trying to help him, like last year when we had to syringe feed him through his pancreatitis, he would let you. He’d be annoyed, but he’d let you. Tonight, when we got home from work, we saw that his back legs were not working. We rushed him to the emergency vet, and they said it was a blood clot (there’s a technical term but my brain isn’t working right now) and that, unfortunately, there’s nothing we can do, and we’re on borrowed time, especially at his age. We made the decision, as hard as it was, to say good bye to my best friend. I am not ok. I will be in time, just not right now. I love you my Onyx. Forever and ever 🖤🐈⬛
