Under the guise of a regular job, people are travelling to Russia for the chance to earn money and support their families. Some are promised civilian jobs and made to sign documents in Russian that they can’t understand. Then instead of being taken to a workplace, they ended up on the front line of the war in Ukraine. Human trafficking under international law is when people are recruited through deception, coercion, and/or fraud for the purposes of exploitation. Amnesty International is calling for investigations and accountability for everyone involved in such predatory practices.
Amnesty International’s new landmark 1000+page report exposes how the Iranian authorities committed crimes against humanity to crush the 2022 Woman Life Freedom uprising and identifies 87 officials who should be criminally investigated. We call for urgent international criminal justice to end impunity for repeated mass protest killings in Iran.
As the demand for generative AI has snowballed, the scale of the development of these technologies has spun out of control. Complex supply chains are required to power these systems, presenting us with a trail of human rights risks at every step of their production. These design choices must be challenged. They are not inevitable.
Now is the time to take a stand against oppression, lies, and violence and to side with truth and justice. With courage and unity. #Resist #HumanityMustWin
Meet Manahel al-Otaibi, a fitness instructor and a brave outspoken advocate for women’s rights in Saudi Arabia. In November 2022, she was arrested after posting to Snapchat photos of herself at a shopping mall. In the photos, she was not wearing the abaya, a traditional long-sleeved loose robe. Manahel has been sentenced to 11 years in prison. Manahel has told her family she was beaten by another prisoner and then placed in solitary confinement. Her family and friends are very worried. Join #WriteForRights and call on the Saudi Arabian government to free Manahel. Link in bio. #W4R24

"The right to protest is not dependent on government approval. It is protected by the Indian Constitution and international human rights law." Protesters in Delhi and Mumbai are demanding Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar’s resignation amid controversy over the Election Commission’s Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls. More than 130 million people have been deleted from electoral rolls since 2025. The authorities have responded by imposing prohibition orders on the protests, arresting hundreds of peaceful protesters, and suspending internet and public transport services. These actions are a blatant attack on the rights to freedom of expression and peaceful assembly. Those arbitrarily detained must be released at once, and authorities must guarantee their right to protest. #HumanityMustWin
On July 1 2026, @Amnesty released a report documenting the RSF’s deadly attacks on El Fasher, Sudan, in October 2025, which killed, displaced, injured, sexually violated, and forcibly displaced hundreds of civilians. As global crises compete for attention, Sudan’s suffering must not be ignored. Sudan is the worlds largest humanitarian crisis. In July 2026, @Amnesty stood in unwavering solidarity with the Sudanese people and civilians in El Fasher through bold advocacy and powerful campaigning in Kano, Nigeria, home to thousands of Sudanese refugees. As world leaders meet, in New York, for this year's UNGA @amnesty continues this advocacy. We call on world leaders to not forget Sudan, to protect civilians in Sudan.
Fariba Hashimi fled Afghanistan after the Taliban returned to power in 2021. Before that, she used to train dressed as a man in an effort to avoid being attacked, in a country where women's rights are heavily restricted. Now in exile, she earned her medal in the women's road race at the Asian Game in Japan, as a part of an Afghan diaspora team. "This silver medal can show a lot of resilience from Afghan women, and I'm really happy," she said. We stand in solidarity with all the women of Afghanistan.
Niaz, a child protester, and her family had to flee Iran. Amnesty International exposes how Iranian authorities committed crimes against humanity to crush the 2022 #WomanLifeFreedom uprising. Stand with victims. Demand international justice for crimes against humanity in Iran on amnesty. org
Defending LGBTI rights in Turkiye is more urgent now than ever. A country wide police operation called ‘My Family is Safe’ targeting activists and organisations has seen scores detained including 24 LGBTI rights defenders imprisoned since 12 September. Around the world, people are telling Turkish authorities to end the crackdown on LGBTI rights.
What do you know about the minerals that are used to make your phone? In North and South Kivu in the Democratic Republic of #Congo, M23 control who enters, who leaves, and who profits. For many artisanal miners, violence is a frequent, constant threat. The violations documented in our latest briefing may amount to crimes under international law. We’re demanding that global companies stop buying gold and coltan from Rwanda until Rwanda ends trafficking of mineral tainted with human rights abuses from eastern DRC.
