You might notice in the super slow-mo version, I lean the body in the direction that I want to go (and my bike slightly away). This little lean helps create a little extra momentum to get your bike hopping sideways. The most important part of this skill, however, is making sure both wheels leave the ground at the same time. Practice this even lifting of your wheels on flat ground until you’ve got it perfect, and then start moving up to slightly larger obstacles. This doesn’t need to be a massive jump, just an even one. Curbs are the best place to practice this skill, start there and work your way up! #mtb #mtbiking #bike

Ok, first things first, all corners are not the same - this drill specifically helps you with tight switchbacks (but surely the effects of this practice extend to other styles of cornering). This is another one of those trailhead drills that can warm you up for the ride and get you moving on the bike. You can modify by riding slower, switching to your opposite stance, or going in either direction. Put yourself to the test and see how slow you can get a full, tight circle with the ratchet drill. Practice makes progress! #mtb #bike #mtbiking

This quick pedal motion is the secret sauce to pulling your back wheel off the ground - and the best part is that you can learn the basics without even getting on the bike! When I do pedal scoops, I try to focus my energy on both pedals doing the motion, but my back foot is definitely doing the heavy lifting on this technique. This skill quickly becomes automatic and connects your brain to the back wheel better than any other skill I’ve tried. #mtb #mtbiking #bike
