Eleven years after sentencing Corey Glenn to prison, Judge Noel Hillman granted him early termination from federal supervision. When Corey was originally sentenced, he made a promise to himself and Judge Hillman. After his release, he kept his promise. He rebuilt his life, gave back to his community, and became a leader helping others successfully reenter society. Today, he's the Program Director of Reentry Services under the Sheriff in Salem County Correctional Facility. When Judge Hillman ended Corey’s supervision, he understood that it was no longer serving Corey. Supervision wasn’t making the community safer or benefiting Corey; it was preventing him from fully giving back to his community. That’s exactly why the Safer Supervision Act matters. This legislation ensures people who have demonstrated rehabilitation can finally move forward with their lives. Watch Corey and Judge Hillman reflect on second chances, successful supervision, and why the Safer Supervision Act matters for those who have demonstrated rehabilitation. ICYMI: During his historic Yankee Stadium concert run, REFORM Alliance Founding Partner and Board Member JAY-Z uplifted our mission in a freestyle for tens of thousands of fans. For years, REFORM's Board of Directors has helped drive the movement to transform supervision by advancing laws that improve public safety and give people the opportunity to reunite with their families and move forward. Together, we've helped pass 23 bills across 12 states. These reforms are reducing recidivism, strengthening communities, and creating lasting change. Thank you to JAY-Z, our founding partners, and board members for continuing to champion this work. Join the movement. https://tr.ee/jxRTUvC3u6
REFORM is leading the effort to pass the federal Safer Supervision Act so people rebuilding their lives and contributing to their communities have a real path off federal supervision. Corey Glenn knows firsthand what that opportunity can mean. After returning home from federal prison, he used his own reentry experience to build a program helping kids, but his supervision status kept blocking the funding he needed to scale his work. So Corey went back to the same judge who sentenced him eleven years prior and asked for early termination. Getting off supervision gave Corey the freedom to grow his program and do more for his community. The Safer Supervision Act would give that same opportunity to thousands of hardworking men and women across the country, proving they deserve a real second chance. 🎥 Watch the full interview https://tr.ee/nm3QXjbtP5 and tell Congress it's time to pass the Safer Supervision Act.
What happens when the exception becomes the rule? Ask the 110,000 Americans currently on federal supervision. When it was created, federal supervision was meant to be a targeted tool focused on helping people reintegrate into their communities. 40 years later? The number of people on federal supervision has grown by roughly 200%. That's not targeted intervention. That's a system that stretches supervision officers past their limits and makes individualized support nearly impossible. Supervision should be a bridge to stability. It's time to bring the system back to what it was intended to do. 🔗 Learn more and become a REFORMer (link in bio).
Want to have an honest conversation about redemption, second chances, and what it really takes to rebuild a life? Join us on August 19 from 12–1 PM ET for REFORM’s Speaker Series with @Jesse Crosson . At 18, Jesse was sentenced to 32 years in prison. After receiving a conditional pardon, he returned home and spent years navigating probation. Since then, he’s dedicated his life to helping others successfully reenter their communities. Today, Jesse leads the Second Chancer Foundation, showing that when people are given the support they need, they can build extraordinary lives. RSVP to join us on Zoom. https://tr.ee/2T5Efj5Q-y
No one should go to jail because they became the victim of a crime. ❌4 million people on probation or parole in the U.S.❌Every 5 mins. one of those people is sent back to prison for a technical violation. 🤔 Did you know #MeekMill got sent back to prison on a technical violation because he popped a wheelie? The system severely needs reform smh.
🚨 Judith was invited to the White House to advocate for others impacted by incarceration and supervision. Then her probation officer told her the visit could send her back to prison. That’s the reality for thousands under federal supervision: one minor rule violation can undo years of progress. Supervision should help people rebuild, not hold them back. The Safer Supervision Act restores federal supervision’s original purpose—supporting success, protecting public safety, and cutting red tape. 🔗 Learn more: https://ow.ly/lLYv50ZPKuh
