A quick tour of one of the world’s largest and most important galliform collections, tucked away in Scotland 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿 🐤 From curassows and grouse to an incredible variety of pheasants, this collection includes some exceptionally rare species — with the Bornean peacock-pheasants a particular highlight for me! An extraordinary collection showcasing the diversity of this fascinating group of birds, and a real privilege to see in person. Two zebra finches, both at different ends of evolution! ⚖️ 🐦 Whilst they're not actually the same species (Taeniopygia guttata vs Taeniopygia castanotis), a side-by-side comparison tells quite the story... The small, slender Timor zebra finch provides a similar wild-type comparison to the much larger exhibition zebra finch, which descends from the Australian form. Over generations, breeders have selected birds for size, shape, markings and colour, creating the impressive exhibition birds we see today. A fascinating example of the art of selective breeding! #ZebraFinch #SelectiveBreeding #Aviculture #Aviary #Finches

Twites looking well after the moult 🪶 In my opinion they’re one of the most underrated finches in aviculture. Yes, they’re the pinnacle of “little brown job” but they’re great little characters and love chattering away in small flocks! #twite #finch #birds #aviary #aviculture
