Do you think you have the patience for this? Ochroma pyramidale, commonly known as balsa, is a large, fast-growing tree native to the Americas. It is the sole member of the genus Ochroma, and is classified in the subfamily Bombacoideae of the mallow family Malvaceae. The tree is famous for its wide usage in woodworking, due to its softness and its high strength compared to its low density. The name balsa is the Spanish word for "raft" and the Portuguese word for ferry. I like to use it to make teeny tiny siding for lil houses. #asmr #satisfying #crafting #maker #creative

I was looking at this 1/72 scale miniature house I built as part of a set for a music video, and I started wondering:How would a 1/72 scale person actually get to the front door? Sure, they could walk across the grass, some people have standards. So, naturally, I realized I had to build a miniature walkway. I started by cutting a piece of .040 styrene for the base, then duplicated the shape in .020 styrene. I cut that thinner piece into individual tiles and attached them to the base with plastic cement. For the rough concrete texture, I cut down the bristles of a cheap round brush and used the little bristle nubs to stipple Tamiya putty that I’d spread over the surface with a metal scalpel. Once everything was dry, I primed the walkway with flat white enamel spray paint. Then I gave it a grey acrylic basecoat, dry brushed it with white, and filled the gaps between the tiles with a thick black wash. Finally, I coated the whole thing with a thinner black wash to bring everything together. Iattached it to the diorama base with tacky PVA glue, then surrounded it with flocking to hide the edges and help integrate the walkway into the scene. I’m pretty happy with how it turned out. #miniature #scalemodel #diorama #setdesign #artdepartment

If I could go back in time and tell my teenage self anything, I think what he might find the most surprising is how into books I am. I hated reading so much until my early 20s, and now I read all the time. So to celebrate my passage from my 20s into what many are calling “the new 20s” I thought I would share with you the 30 books that impacted me the most in my 20s. This is also basically the list of the books that have impacted me the most throughout my life, because before my 20s I had read like 10 books tops. This was all a combination of physical books, ebooks, and audiobooks. Some people don’t count audiobooks as reading, but I do not care about those people or what they think. I limited myself to one book per author, even though there are a lot of authors who’ve written multiple books that I could call my favorites. I also tried to include some entries from just about every genre I’ve read, and I’ve read a lot of genres, so again there were a few books I would’ve loved to have included but their place was better given to books from other genres. That’s all I gotta say. #books #booktok #30s #birthday #bookrecs
