As I missed International Dog Day on Wednesday, here’s a little throwback to puppy Minnie 🥹 She was such a tiny cutie, and it’s amazing to think how much she’s grown up and how much she helps me every single day now. I honestly don’t know what I’d do without her 💗 VD: A small, fluffy cream coloured puppy, Minnie, is travelling in the car while lying in a little dog bed and wearing a pink harness. As the pitch of the sound gets higher, she looks up and turns her head from side to side, listening curiously. END VD. #assistancedog #puppy #goldendoodle #medicalalertdog #autismassistancedog

People tend to see the last straw before a meltdown, and assume it was one little thing that did it. What they don’t see are all the demands, sensory challenges, surprise changes and communication barriers that came before. In this video, I use the analogy of a shaken bottle to demonstrate how pressure can build up during a typical hospital day for an autistic or neurodivergent person. This is not about blaming the distressed patient or the staff responding to an emergency or the support worker who arrives at the end. It’s about seeing the pressure that’s building up and giving people communication, consistency and reasonable adjustments before the bottle reaches its limit. Credit to mums amazing voiceover!! VD: A person in a wheelchair holds a clear plastic bottle of fizzy drink with a cap on. The video cuts between the bottle and hospital scenes. The bottle is shaken repeatedly, and bubbles form inside it. Hospital scenes include a dark room, a clock showing 6 a.m., emergency equipment, paperwork, bright fluorescent lights and a sensory light going out. Text and narration appear throughout the video. The bottle is shaken again, the cap is removed, and fizzy liquid rapidly foams out of the opening. VD ends #autismawareness #nurodivergent #hospital #autismawareness #accessability
