Just a girl and her creepy psychological horror novels against the world 👻📚💀 I love matching my reads to the current season and October calls for either creepy psychological horror or wholesome magical fantasy stories and there’s no in between… Here’s my list of creepy novels that you should read this October.. 1. Dark Sisters: Kristi Demeester Dark sisters is a historical feminist horror novel about generational trauma, religious oppression, and women pushed to the brink by inherited suffering and rage. Perfect Halloween read 💀 2. Don’t Believe a Word: The Family Lies: Angela Henry The Family lies is a psychological thriller where a desperate woman who lies her way into a job with a wealthy family discovers that their glamorous world may conceal dangerous secrets of its own. 3. Shutter Island: Dennis Lehane I have watched the movie but I just started reading the novel 📖 As a Boston resident, I love the fact that it’s based in Boston. It is a page psychological thriller where a U.S. Marshal investigating a missing patient at a remote psychiatric hospital uncovers disturbing secrets that blur the line between reality and delusion. 4: Fairy Tale: Stephen King One of the best fantasy novels by Stephen King. It has the right mix of wholesome magical fantasy and lurking danger. A grieving teenager discovers a hidden, fantastical world where he must confront dark forces and embark on a dangerous quest. 5. The Children: Melissa Albert Another one of the novels that I am currently reading 📖 Two estranged siblings raised in isolation confront their troubled childhood and the unsettling legacy of their mother’s bestselling fantasy novels. 6. Nobody Knows You’re Here: Bryn Greenwood A desperate young woman accepts a stranger’s seemingly life-changing job offer, only to find herself in a situation where trust may be more dangerous than desperation. A story of perseverance and persistence and not losing hope. 7. We used to live here: Marcus Kliewer A very creepy psychological thriller with mind-bending plots that left me thinking even after I finished reading it.. A woman who lets strangers into her home for a quick tour finds herself trapped in an increasingly terrifying nightmare where nothing is as it seems. 8. Misery: Stephen King Another one of my favorites by Mr.King, a page-turning psychological thriller that I wasn’t able to keep down until I finished it. After a car accident, a famous novelist is held captive by his obsessive fan, whose increasingly violent demands turn his fight for survival into a psychological nightmare. 9. We Have Always Lived in the Castle: Shirley Jackson On my to be read list.. An isolated young woman lives with her sister in a decaying family mansion, guarding dark secrets after a mysterious arsenic poisoning devastated their family. 10. Practical Magic: Alice Hoffman If you need a palette cleanser after all the creepy reads, Practical Magic should be on your list. It is one of the most wholesome, magical witchy book I have read and it’s all about the power of sisterhood. Two witch sisters navigate love, loss, family curses, and self-acceptance while struggling to escape the dark legacy haunting their family.
