⬇️You have every right to bring a beverage with you to a job interview. But there is only one reason why you should and 100 reasons why you shouldn’t. 🧋Here are all the reasons you should NOT bring an iced coffee to a job interview. ▪️The perception is that you didn’t plan ahead. That you didn’t finish your coffee before the interview. That you lack time management and are selfish. ▪️When you arrive at job interview with an iced coffee it looks like this interview is “just a stop on your day, it looks too casual” @Caitlin | Recruiter ▪️Where are you going to put it? When you walk in, you’ll be holding an iced coffee? How are you going to shake hands? 👉🏼Watch this @Anna Papalia to see how ridiculous that looks. ▪️Every corporate job interviewer will offer you something to drink. Would you bring your dinner to a dinner party? Would you bring your own coffee to a cafe, NO! Then why are you bringing beverages of any kind to a job interview? ▪️When you’re sitting in the person’s office across from their desk? Where are you going to put it on the floor? @Bethenny Frankel “you might as well be smoking a cigarette!” Or if you are in a conference room, you better hope they have a coaster because that iced coffee is going to leave wet marks and drips everywhere. And that is not the impression I want to leave in a job interview. ▪️When are you going to drink it? While they are talking? In between your interview answers you’ll be sucking on the straw? Imagine that for a moment. The only reason you would bring an iced coffee to a job interview is because you want to and you think you need it. You need an emotional support beverage? Might as well bring your parents to the job interview. 🚩And that is the biggest red flag to interviewers. It shows us that you don’t get it and that’s all we need to know. That you will be an entitled selfish employee who doesn’t understand corporate etiquette and how the world works. Imagine a senator walking into session with a Venti Vanilla Chai. Imagine an actor walking into an audition with a sweaty watered-down @Starbucks Americano. Imagine an executive vice president in the CEO’s office for a final interview with a Large @Dunkin' Iced coffee? We all love and need coffee but c’mon finish it before the job interview or don’t. Bring it with you and see what happens. #jobinterview #icedcofee #careertipstiktokcontest  #careeradvice

⬇️Here’s the most effective way to get someone to like you. There are 2 strategies to get someone to like you. 1️⃣ First strategy (most common but least effective) Most people try to get someone to like them by abandoning themselves and pretending to be whatever they think this person wants them to be. They wear the same clothes as that person, they talk about the same things, they might even lie and say they play the same sports. This works, temporarily because you can’t pretend forever. Eventually you stop pretending and they will see your real personality. 2️⃣Second strategy (least common but most effective) Getting someone to like you has nothing to do with you. And this is where most people can’t pull off this strategy because they make everything about themselves. In order to get someone to like you, all you have to do give them your full attention, listen and be genuinely curious about who they are. ✨Ask interesting follow up questions. ✨Refer to back to something they said. ✨Use their name and pay them a compliment. ✨Make them feel like the most important person in the room. ❌You do not need to pretend to be something you’re not. ❌You do not need to lie about what you do or who you are. It’s way more simple than that, all you need to do it listen and make that person feel good about themselves. If you don’t want to make someone else feel good and you refuse to allow someone else the spotlight- they won’t like you. #jobinterview #careertipstiktokcontest #howto #confidence #careeradvice

If you think that it’s unfair that you can’t bring an iced coffee to a job interview you have lived a sheltered and privileged life. Corporate hiring is very unfair. 90% of hiring managers are never trained to interview and they are sexist, racist, ableist and ageists.    You know who isn’t bringing an iced coffee to a job interview? A black woman. Because she knows that white people get hired faster and that she needs to do everything she can to make a great impression. She knows that she will be discriminated against in a job interview and she knows she needs to work extra hard to be taken seriously. Being judged for your skin color and your ethnicity is racism and that is unfair.    You know who isn’t brining an iced coffee to a job interview? A woman who is 52 and was laid off and can’t get scheduled a job interview to save her life because everyone thinks she’s “too old.” Not being given a chance because you’re too old is ageism and that is unfair.    You know who isn’t brining an iced coffee to a job interview? A woman who took 8 years off to raise her kids and now has a gap on her resume. Being perceived negatively because of your gender is sexist and is unfair.    This discourse about whether or not you should be able to bring an iced coffee to a job interview is a privileged conversation. If you have ever brought an iced coffee to a job interview you do not know discrimination and true unfairness.    For those of you who are battling it out in the comment section saying that “things need to change” so you can bring your iced coffee to a job interview you’re right about one thing, things need to change but it isn’t about iced coffee.    We need to train hiring managers to be less biased, less sexist and less racist. We need to change the conversation from can you bring an iced coffee to why are non-white applicants routinely discriminated against? Why are people over 45 considered too old? How can we see past people’s looks and see their skills?    If you think not being able to bring an iced coffee to a job interview is unfair, you don’t know how the world works and you have never experienced true unfairness. Try getting a corporate job being non-white, over 45 and disabled.    Please do me and use all the gen z “we gotta change the world” energy on things that actually need changing. In the meantime, put down your iced coffee and advocate for the right things.    #jobinterview #icedcoffee #careertipstiktokcontest #careeradvice #corporatehiring

🤷‍♀️There’s no debate. You have every right to bring an iced coffee with you to a job interview. And you should bring your parents while you’re at it. If you need an emotional support beverage, bring one. If you need mommy to hold your hand while I ask you tough interview questions, go for it. I believe in everyone’s right to bring whatever they want to a job interview because it makes my job easier because it shows me exactly who you are. 👉🏼In a job interview, you will be judged for your choices. And it doesn’t matter how you feel about it. Just because you think you should be allowed doesn’t make it so.👈🏼 ▪️If you bring an iced coffee to a corporate job interview, I am not going to hire you. ▪️If you bring your mom to a job interview, I am not going to hire you. And if you say that you wouldn’t work anywhere that won’t let you bring an iced coffee, cool-then we are on the same page. 🍀Good luck finding the right place for you. #jobinterview #careertipstiktokcontest #careeradvice @Caitlin | Recruiter @Coka @TODAY with Jenna & Sheinelle

⬇️Answer these 3 questions to see if you should quit your job 1️⃣ Have you been at your job for more than 2 years?    ▪️No- You need to work at every job for at least 2 years to not be seen as a job hopper. 🚩If you leave before that it’s a big red flag for recruiters. So, suck it up and settle in. Do NOT quit your job.    ▪️Yes, you’ve worked at your job for more than 2 years. Ok, great, proceed to the next question.    2️⃣Are you bored? Have you outgrown your position?    ▪️Yes- you’re just bored. You can’t quit your job because you’re bored. And you definitely can’t quit your job if you don’t have a new job lined up! You can start interviewing though!    👉🏼Do NOT quit your job if you don’t have a new job lined up.    ▪️No- you’re not bored. You’re overworked. Stressed and your job is too hard. Sorry, no you can’t quit your job. You can only quit your job if you have a new job. But since you don’t have a new job- you need to start interviewing. And NO you can’t quit to look for a job because no one will hire you if you’re unemployed.    👉🏼Look for a job while you’re employed.    3️⃣Are you worried that you are going to get laid off?    ▪️Yes. Ok. Well, actively interview but you need to stay as long as possible. 👉🏼Working and collecting a paycheck in an uncertain environment is better than quitting to look for a job. I know you want to avoid a layoff but quitting and being unemployed is worse   ▪️No. Your job is stable. Then what are we talking about?   We are currently in an employer’s market which means there are more people looking for jobs than there are jobs open.    If you have a stable job, don’t quit your job. If you haven’t been there for 2 years, stay put.    #quityourjob #job #careeradvice #careertipstiktokcontest

🧑🏻‍💻Positioning yourself correctly is the only way to get hired in this economy. The job market is an employer’s market. Companies are receiving 300 to 500 applications, so they don’t need to settle for anything less than their ideal candidate. 📝When there’s a lot of competition in the job market your resume needs to be perfect to stand out. 😫Which means if you’re unemployed, a job hopper or have large gaps on your resume they will not schedule you for a job interview because there are 200 other candidates with better resumes. Companies want to think that they’re hiring the best. And in order to appear that you’re the best you need to be as close to the ideal candidate as possible. 🎯The ideal candidate is: in demand, not desperate and not interested. You need to appear in demand (their competition wants to hire you) that you’re not desperate (not unemployed) and you don’t need a job (they want what they can’t have) ❌Hiring managers don’t want to hire someone who is unemployed. ✅Instead of showing that you’re unemployed, start your own LLC and say you’re consulting or put a friend’s business on your resume so that it looks like you are working. (Just make sure your friend will vouch for you if they check your references) ❌Recruiters don’t like candidates who have large employment gaps because they think you don’t need to work. ✅Limit the gaps. ❌No one wants to hire a job hopper because they think you have commitment issues. If you want to be taken seriously, stay at every job for 2 years. ✅Fix the dates on your resume. 👉🏼To discover what you’re doing wrong in job interviews, get an Interviewology Profile ❌Overqualified people are never hired because we think you’re going to leave this job as soon as you find a better one. ✅Take the qualifications off your resume that would get you out of the running. ✨And pro-tip- your resume is a highlight reel of your accomplishments, and you’re the best person to write it. ❌Don’t use AI because we can tell a robot wrote it. And you do not need to pay anyone to write your resume for you. 🍀For more tips on how to interview better, follow me, get my book Interviewology: The New Science of Interviewing and get all our free resume resources at TheInterviewology.com #unemployed #resumetips #careertipstiktokcontest #jobsearch #jobinterivew

👩🏼‍💻If you want a corporate job you need to be taken seriously and you need to know how to act. It’s ok if you were never taught, let me teach you interview etiquette. When you are being interviewed you are being hosted so act accordingly. 🔹Say please and thank you, sit up straight, and participate in the conversation. 🤝You need to know how to shake hands. If you are uncomfortable shaking hands, practice. First impressions matter and if you give me a limp handshake I will wonder why. ❌Do NOT ask for coffee with cream & sugar, I am NOT a barista. Just ask for water or accept whatever I offer- do not make a crazy request. ❌When you walk into the interview room, do NOT wait for me to tell you where to sit. ✅Just sit opposite of me. ✅When you sit down, always put your hands on the table. If you put your hands in your lap you look nervous and untrustworthy. ✅Throughout the job interview you should be taking notes on a pad of paper in your padfolio NOT on your phone. When I ask you if you have questions, you need to have great questions prepared about next steps in the interview process. ❌Do NOT ask me “Are there any reasons why you wouldn’t want to hire me?” because no one is going to be honest with you ✅Instead tell them that you are actively interviewing because hiring managers want what they can’t have. #jobinterview #corporate #jobsearch #resume #careeradvice

⬇️ I have been tagged in these videos a lot. Here’s my take, hot or iced bringing a coffee to a job interview is not a smart move. While some hiring managers don’t care, a lot do. Hiring is not standardized and highly subjective. In a job interview I would overdress and always send a thank you email. Are those things required, no. But they can’t hurt. In a job interview you should do things to impress and bringing an iced coffee doesn’t have an upside. There is no benefit to bringing a coffee. So why would you bring one? For you? The job interview isn’t for you. And while I am at it, don’t bring a huge water bottle either. C’mon! That cup of coffee makes you look stupid and so does that giant water bottle.    Can you really not going anywhere without something to drink?    Is this your emotional support liquid?    You look more polished, professional and ready to interview when you have a padfolio not a Yeti.   First impressions matter a lot. You think you look cool with an iced coffee but you look stupid.    #icedcoffee #interview #careertipstiktokcontest #interviewtips #corporate @Caitlin | Recruiter
