Another Enrichment Day on the homestead and these babies had a FULL day! They finally got to see the baby chicks THEY hatched, learned what their new chicks need and how to properly care for them! Of course we normally start with animal chores… but apparently outdoor play was more important today because baby, I got DITCHED! LMBO We explored the garden, then headed inside where I showed them how to make a fresh fruit cake for one of our enrichment buddies! They played, ate, sang Happy Birthday to James and celebrated together before we finished the day learning how to make their own essential-oil room spray! Animals. Gardening. Food. Creating. Celebrating. And plenty of OUTDOOR PLAY! BABY… THIS is the kind of school I wish we ALL had growing up! Another week of our Homestead Enrichment Program and these kids got to LEARN WITH THEIR HANDS! They checked on the chicks THEY incubated, watched more babies hatch and learned what happened with the eggs that didn’t. Then they handled their morning animal chores before heading straight to the garden. And THIS week they finally got to harvest the LOOFAHS they’ve been watching grow! Every child got to walk through the garden and choose their OWN. Even the bad tomatoes had a purpose straight to the chickens they went! LMBO Then we came inside, made FRESH orange juice from actual oranges and finished the day making our own homemade SOAP! And somewhere in between all of that? They ran around outside, played and got to just be KIDS. What makes it even more special is that half of this class is doing my 7-day reset WITH their parents and me! That’s the part I LOVE. I’m not only getting an opportunity to pour into the children. I’m watching what they learn come HOME with them and become something their families can experience together. THIS is education to me. Teach them where their food comes from. Teach them how to make things themselves. Teach them to care for animals. Teach them to work with their hands. Then give them enough freedom to PLAY, explore and be children. WHO SAID SCHOOL HAS TO HAPPEN BEHIND A DESK?! Another day in our TEEN Enrichment Program, but today we took learning on the ROAD! Our destination? The Perot Museum! One thing about me, I’m a HANDS-ON teacher! I want my kids to look back on their education and remember the EXPERIENCES, the excitement and how much FUN they had while learning! And baby, today we did a little bit of EVERYTHING! They got their P.E. in, worked on brain and hand coordination, explored SPACE, learned how earthquakes and tornadoes form, became weather broadcasters, discovered different animals, designed their own 3D characters, explored the human brain, traveled back in time with dinosaurs and even built their own birds! And the BEST part? They LAUGHED, explored, asked questions and created CORE MEMORIES together! After 9 years of homeschooling my own children, I’m so grateful that I get to take everything I’ve learned and now pour it into OTHER children too! I don’t just want these kids to remember what I taught them. I want them to remember how they FELT while learning it. The friendships. The laughter. The confidence. The experiences. Because years from now, they may forget a worksheet, but they’ll remember the places they went, the things they discovered and the people they experienced it WITH!
