The captain in the passenger jet who was stabbed by his co-pilot midflight in an alleged terrorist attack trained in New Zealand.⁠ ⁠ The incident occurred on Wednesday (local time) when a co-pilot on the FlyDubai flight from the United Arab Emirates - FZ1073 - stabbed the captain and then apparently tried to crash the aircraft carrying dozens of Israelis, Israel's prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu said.⁠ ⁠ "Despite being stabbed and seriously injured, he fought back, resisted, opened the cockpit door, and enabled passengers and crew to overpower the attacker — preventing a catastrophic mid-air disaster," Netanyahu said.⁠ ⁠ Passengers - reportedly including an off-duty Kiwi pilot - burst into the cockpit and wrestled with the attacker as the plane descended sharply, witnesses said.
