Memorial Day For many Americans, this weekend is about grilling, cold beer, sunshine, and weekends at the lake & honestly, that’s part of the beauty of this country. The freedom to enjoy those moments is exactly what so many fought and died for. But for me, Memorial Day is not just another long weekend. It is a day of remembrance. It is a day for the men and women who never made it home. The ones who told their spouses goodbye not knowing it would be the last time. The fathers, sons, brothers who left behind children. The young men and women who sacrificed their hopes, dreams, futures, and entire lives for something bigger than themselves. It’s for the soldiers who died in places most Americans will never see. From Normandy to Vietnam, from Iraq to Afghanistan, and every conflict in between. Different wars, different generations, same sacrifice. I was honored to serve 12.5 years beside some of the most incredible men and women I will ever know during my time in the Army. Warriors. Leaders. Brothers and sisters. People willing to give everything for the person standing next to them and for the flag on their shoulder. Some of them never made it home. Even though my chapter in the military is closed, their memory never will be. You carry those people with you forever. Their laughs. Their stories. Their sacrifices. The empty seats they left behind. So this weekend, enjoy your family. Enjoy the lake. Enjoy the food and the freedom. But take a moment to reflect on the cost of that freedom. Because Memorial Day belongs to the fallen. It’s crazy how in just three years you can go from being almost complete strangers to feeling like family. I’ve had the absolute honor and privilege of watching Taylor and Breeeeeeeeezy grow, evolve, and absolutely crush it over the last few years. Between the two of them graduating from college, chasing their goals, and figuring out life, it’s been amazing to watch. The amount of nonstop laughter, inappropriate jokes, roasting, and pure chaos that happened whenever the three of us got together was truly next level. Somehow we always got the job done while making every shift feel less like work and more like hanging out with friends. Thank you both for making my job not only enjoyable, but so much easier when you were around. I can never fully express how grateful I am for everything you’ve done for me over the years. Whether you realize it or not, you’ve made me a better man, a better leader, and a better friend. Watching my two little sisters spread their wings and head off to take on the world is bittersweet. I’m incredibly proud of both of you and excited to see what comes next. If the last three years are any indication, you’re both going to do amazing things. Thank you for helping me navigate breakups and deaths in the family and all the things life throws at us. Just remember: no matter where life takes you, you’ll always have a brother cheering you on, laughing at your terrible jokes, and reminding you that I taught you everything you know. also, you’ll never have anyone who loves and supports you more! ❤️ Love you both more than words could describe .
