After my video yesterday in which I showed my process of cleaning my brayers, there were a couple of questions about cleaning the gel plate. So here you go, my 3 best options to get my gel plate clean and ready for the next gel printing session. Although I have to mention, that this is not something I do consistently. I love little bits of left over paints showing up in my next print so I usually don’t clean the plate between sessions unless the technique asks for it. Did you know that the @gelliarts gel printing plate is a perfect tool to seal a water reactive background? You can seal your cards, art journal pages, mixed media papers etc. with a thin layer of matte medium and work on top with whatever medium you want without messing them up. It’s important that especially the first layer is really thin so there is minumum chance that you will move the paper and get a reaction with the wet medium. Repeat the process 2 or 3 times to get a nice and even solid layer. Make sure the matte medium dries in between layers and before adding other mediums. My favorite matte medium is from Liquitex because it is so fluid and spreads easily into a thin layer. This also works with water colors, water reactive inks etc. or to seal your pastel backgrounds. It’s a good idea to do a test drive to find out the right amount of matte medium so you don’t mess up your beautiful work ;) In this video I used Neocolor II and Dina Wakley scribble sticks to create the background. @Gelli Arts®️ #birgitkoopsen #gelliarts #printmaking #gelprinting #rainbowismyfavoritecolor #arttools

A questions that I got asked frequently is “What if dried acrylic paint stays on the plate for a longer time? Will I be able to get it off or do I need to clean the plate after each printing session?” The answer is dry is dry and it doesn’t matter how long it’s been dry. You will always be able to pull it up with a fresh layer of paint or tape or clean the @gelliarts gel printing plate with a wet cloth. Note: one of the reasons why I don’t clean my Gelli Arts plate after a printing session is that I really like the dried left overs showing up in my next print!
