The Annisquam River is a shorter route to and from Gloucester Harbor to points north. For a deep draft sailboat with relatively low power this shortcut is a tricky piece of work. The biggest pucker is the Blynman Drawbridge in the heart of Gloucester. This video shows it at near slack water, but currents in this narrow cut reach and often exceed 3 knots. There is also a second railroad bridge at a tight bend in the river that is almost as challenging. The river is also quite shoaled up and passage for a 5.5 foot draft sailboat is tricky business at low tide, which is when I made this passage. Currents are fierce and while the trip is beautiful, it's not for the faint of heart in a sailboat. #saltyoldcruiser #BlynmanBridge #AnnisquamRiver #Gloucester
