Most people are aware of the tragedy that unfolded on September 11, 2001, in New York City and the swift action by first responders to the scene. A lesser-known rescue effort is the historic maritime evacuation that took place that day - one that was greater even than Dunkirk. In this episode of "I Was There" VICE meets civilian mariner Pete Johansen who assisted with the world's largest boat lift that rescued half a million people stranded on the seawalls of Lower Manhattan. What a treat to be able to see Belfast through the eyes of the one and only Iain Ross aka @Thug Loaf (Iain GBBO) Welcome to the MUNCHIES Guide to #Belfast. Belfast, a city with a legendary history, isn’t considered often for its food. But between soda bread and Irish seafood, it’s time people start paying attention. Iain begins his day at home doing what he does best, making artwork on bread with edible paint… From there, Iain ventures off into the city, starting out at Mamó Patisserie for the city’s best fresh-baked croissants and soda bread. Then, Iain explores St Georges Market to try out some local oysters and procure provisions for a wee jaunt toward Cave Hill; think Guinness wheaten bread and Irish cheese. After the hike, Iain heads down to Flout Pizza to test his bread skills by making Flout’s signature sourdough New York style pie. From there, it’s time for some nitro stouts at Sunflower Public House. Instead of Guinness, this public house is known for its delicious pour of Beamish. After a black cab ride that explores the city’s history during The Troubles, Iain heads to The Spirit Circle to test out his palate in an attempt to make a perfectly bespoke cocktail. Finally, Iain finishes his day off at Noble to try out the best modern Irish the city has to offer, before heading to the legendary Garrick Bar for a pour of Guinness, some pub snacks, and some trad music. What a day! Made in Partnership with @Tourism Ireland.
