With this sculpture, I wanted to capture the exact moment of “beautiful suffocation.” It begins as a battle for form: rigid, calculated biomechanics being overtaken by the fractal unpredictability of fungi. But look closer, and the narrative shifts. What looks like consumption is actually a merger. The crystalline mycelium isn’t just destroying the host; it is evolving with it. We move from parasitism to symbiosis, where the two systems merge to function as one new entity. Eventually, nature doesn’t just rewrite the code. It assimilates it. The Build: A fungal tribute to the master, H.R. Giger.
