I visualized how higher-dimensional beings might perceive our reality. For us, we are stuck in the three dimensions of space and the fourth dimension of time, but for an observer outside our reality in a higher dimension, they wouldn't see every moment linearly, one after another. They would see everything, everywhere, all at once, essentially fusing past, present, and future into the equivalent of a unified god's-eye view. No wonder Kurt Vonnegut's alien creatures viewed humans as the great millipede, with baby legs on one end and old-person legs on the other. This visualization gives you a sense of what that might look like. Now imagine such an audit trail of your life, from cradle to grave. Blows my mind in the best kind of way!

Kurt Vonnegut imagined an alien race that would see our lifetimes all at once, with baby legs on one end and old people's legs on the other, almost like a “great millipede.” When I made this 4D reconstruction, it hit differently. The deer made me think about what it would feel like to be outside of time, looking at your whole existence at once. Are we moving through time as it happens, or has it all happened and are we just experiencing the moments? I find these kinds of visualizations so interesting, given how they intersect with 19th-century techniques that made video what it is today. For example, the horse in motion. It's extremely cool how they relate to both modern-day video and bullet time (aka volumetric video capture). There's also the great Marley, who built on these techniques and did amazing chronophotography. The majestic nature of viewing this is truly mind-boggling. It makes you think about us as we explore space and time, reason about 3d vs 4d vs higher dimensions - perpetually wondering what the nature of our existence actually is?

Inside the frame it's winter, and outside the frame it's summer - until you step inside. It's mind bending walking around the same place simultaneously in two timelines Recorded this footage in the winter and localized it against a massive 3d scan of the same ranch in the summer. You can follow the camera from the outside, then step into the moment I recorded. We spend so much time looking at memories through 2d rectangles in our camera roll. It's a strange feeling to walk around one instead. Like navigating through space instead of scrolling through time. The geospatial memory palace continues to come to life!
