HBO's Lanterns is making Hal Jordan look like a washed-up has-been and as a Green Lantern fan, I can't stay quiet. Here's the truth about Kyle Chandler's Hal Jordan, why the show aged him down, and why the comics prove he's still the greatest Green Lantern of all time. In James Gunn's DCU series Lanterns, Hal Jordan is the grizzled veteran mentoring John Stewart through a small-town murder mystery — a far cry from the comics, where Hal Jordan is the standard every Green Lantern is measured against. The first human Green Lantern. The man whose willpower reignited a dying sun, who punched through the Source Wall, who led the Green Lantern Corps through war after war. Yes, he fell as Parallax — and came back redeemed and stronger than ever. John Stewart has the discipline. Kyle Rayner has the heart. Guy Gardner has the attitude. But Hal Jordan is the legend the Guardians built everything around. The show can make him look bad — it's setting up the comeback. In brightest day, Hal Jordan is still the greatest. HBO's Lanterns Episode 7: The Scene That Redeemed Hal Jordan Episode 7 of HBO's Lanterns just gave us the best Hal Jordan scene of the entire season — and it's not even close. For six and a half episodes, Hal has been on John Stewart's ass: constant aggression, walls up, keeping John shut out completely because he knows the Guardians are trying to replace him. John never got to see Hal's good side. Then this scene happens. Kerry Kane says the line — and everything changes. This video breaks down why the scene isn't really for us, it's for John: the moment he goes from hating Hal for good reason to realizing he's been wrong about him the whole time. Massive shoutout to Kelly Macdonald (Kerry Kane), who killed it. Drop a comment: was this the moment Hal won you back? 🟢 Subscribe to Beyond Comix for Lanterns breakdowns every week — finale's Sunday. #lanterns #haljordan #greenlantern #dcu #beyondcomix
