Do you ever feel like your ADHD meds aren’t working? It could be the dosage. New research shows that a lot of people, especially kids, are taking ADHD medication at doses too low to be effective. A new study analyzed 113 clinical trials and more than 25,000 people to find the optimal dosage for every major ADHD medication. For most people, these doses are high enough to be effective without causing further risks. For kids and teens ages 5–17 with ADHD: Guanfacine (Intuniv, Tenex) 4 mg/day Amphetamines (Adderall, Mydayis) 25 mg/day Methylphenidate (Ritalin, Concerta, and more) 45 mg/day Lisdexamfetamine (Vyvanse, Arynta) 55 mg/day For adults, only one medication had a measurable ideal dose: amphetamines (Adderall) at 50 mg/day. These are just averages though. The right dose varies from person to person. If you feel like your medication isn’t helping enough, talk to your health care provider. Understood is not affiliated with any pharmaceutical company. Read the study here: https://www.thelancet.com/journals/lanpsy/article/PIIS2215-0366(26)00091-X/fulltext OR Nourredine, M., et al. Would you trust the federal government to handle a special education complaint these days? New data shows that many parents don’t. Here’s why. Last year, the Trump administration laid off roughly half the staff at the Department of Education’s Office for Civil Rights, and closed seven of its 12 regional offices. By the end of 2025, the office was dealing with a backlog of more than 24,000 cases. Now it looks like frustrated parents are turning to states instead. Written state complaints about special ed services jumped 46 percent in just one school year, according to a survey of 31 states. To learn more about the state of special education in America, follow our new series, “Zero Reject,” wherever you get your podcasts.
