“They had pictures of me from the same day…” 👀 Former Navy SEAL Shawn Ryan shares a story from his time living in Colombia. He says he’d gone out to a more rural area with a stack of cash and threw some money into a crowd. Later, the concierge where he was staying told him the police had photos of him from that exact day and wanted to know everything about who he was. Shawn says there was even a bug set up outside his room. Within 12 hours, he’d packed his bags and left the country.

“Failure is the greatest gift.” ❤️ @Casey Neistat says getting told you’re not good enough is brutal. But if you can keep going anyway, that’s where everything changes. If you’re not willing to fail for years, you’ll never find out how far you could’ve gone. #failure #motivation #thediaryofaceo

Have you ever said “I love you” first? ❤️ Brené Brown says the most meaningful parts of a relationship all require vulnerability. You can’t know exactly how someone will respond, and you can’t control how things will end. For her, courage is being willing to show up anyway, even when you have no idea what the outcome will be. #love #relationships #thediaryofaceo

“I didn’t want to talk to people for weeks.” Former Navy SEAL Shawn Ryan opens up about taking ibogaine, a powerful psychedelic drug he describes as one of the most intense experiences of his life. The first time, he says it was incredible. The second time, he says he went to hell. Shawn describes total darkness, emptiness, fear and no sense of God. His body was contorting, and the experience felt like it lasted for eternity. Even now, he believes what happened to him was something far deeper than just a psychedelic trip.

“They’ve all lied straight to my face...” Former Navy SEAL Shawn Ryan says his view of Trump has changed a lot since the election. He supported Trump and interviewed him before the vote but now says a lot of what Trump is doing “doesn’t make any sense” to him. And that frustration goes beyond Trump. After interviewing politicians from across the spectrum, Shawn says one thing has stayed consistent: they’ve all looked him in the eye and lied. #trump #usa #politics

He infiltrated criminal networks in Colombia because normal life was boring. This is Shawn Ryan. He joined the US Navy at 17, became a Navy SEAL, went on to work as a CIA contractor, and has since built one of the biggest podcasts in the world. When we sat down, I told Shawn that it feels like he has lived several different lives. And I don’t think I’ve ever meant that more literally. One of the most unexpected parts of his story is what happened to his faith. He told me about an experience where he believes he saw hell, describing it as complete emptiness, fear and the absence of God. For someone who has spent so much of his life around war, danger and intelligence, it was this experience that seemed to have changed him in a completely different way. And that is only one chapter of his life. We discussed things like: - Why he went to Colombia and embedded himself inside criminal networks. - Why he says he went to hell and came back seeing faith differently. - What he saw across Haiti, Afghanistan and Iraq that he still remembers today. - How podcasts could be used to manipulate millions of people. - Why politicians lying to his face changed how he sees politics. - Why he thinks China benefits every time America weakens itself. What makes Shawn’s perspective so interesting is that he hasn’t just studied these worlds from the outside. He has lived inside many of them. There were things in this conversation I probably would have dismissed several years ago. But doing this podcast has made me far more careful about assuming I understand what is possible. You don’t have to agree with everything Shawn believes. But his perspective is absolutely worth hearing. Watch our full conversation now on YouTube, Spotify or Apple Podcasts. When is the best time to exercise? 👀 Andrew Huberman explains why training within the first few hours of waking can make morning workouts easier over time. He says exercising early creates a rise in cortisol, and if you repeat that routine consistently, your body starts anticipating it. In other words, your internal clock begins expecting exercise in the morning, so the motivation to get up and train can start to feel more natural. #exercise #training #muscle #huberman #thediaryofaceo

“Business can destroy a family" Shawn Ryan says becoming a dad changed the way he looks at time. You blink and five years have gone by. Meanwhile, it’s easy to get completely locked into work, chasing the next deal and trying to stay at the top of your game. His reminder is that you only get one shot at raising your kids. If you’re never there, someone else will become the person they turn to.

Are people being planted into podcast circuits? 👀 Shawn Ryan says he’s noticed certain guests suddenly appearing everywhere, pulling huge numbers despite nobody really knowing who they are. His view is that some people seem to know exactly how to deliver one viral sentence, but when you look beyond the clip, there isn’t always much substance behind the story. It’s made him question whether some guests are being pushed because they’re genuinely interesting, or because they’re built to go viral.
