Why is my airlock bubbling too much? Usually, it's a good sign. Heavy airlock bubbling means active fermentation: your yeast are eating sugar and producing CO2. If it's bubbling so hard that foam is climbing into the airlock, swap in a blow-off tube (a wider tube running from your stopper into a jar of sanitizer or sterile water) so CO2 can escape without clogging. One more thing: bubbles aren't a reliable way to track fermentation progress. Use a hydrometer or refractometer to check gravity instead. And if the bubbling slows down, don't rush your next step. Take a gravity reading first. Patience is the most important skill in homebrewing. #homebrewing #brewingbeer #beerbrewing #beermaking #winemaking #meadmaking

How long does Star San last? Short answer: long as the solution stays at a pH of 3.0 or lower. Star San is an acid-based sanitizer, and that low pH is what makes it work. Cloudiness comes from minerals in your water interacting with the ingredients, and sometimes that can raise the pH enough to make it ineffective. How to make StarSan last for months: - Mix it with distilled or reverse osmosis water - Store it in a sealed container to prevent contamination and evaporation - Keep it in a spray bottle for quick, easy sanitizing Remember: Star San is a sanitizer, not a cleaner. Remove stuck-on gunk first with PBW or an oxygen-based cleaner (like unscented OxiClean Free) first, then sanitize. A pH meter will tell you for sure when it’s time to remix it. #homebrewing #starsan #sanitizing #homebrewtips #beginnerbrewer #brewingsanitation

Does your homebrew smell like rotten eggs? Don't dump it 🥚 That sulfur smell is usually a sign of stressed yeast, and it's often fixable. If you smell sulfur in PRIMARY: 1️⃣ Rouse the lees to get live yeast back into suspension and give it a day or two. 2️⃣ Still stinky after rousing? It's probably lacking nutrient. Add a little organic nutrient like Fermaid O (skip DAP this late in fermentation, since it can leave an ammonia flavor). 3️⃣ Still smelly? Splash rack it into a second sanitized carboy to help off-gas the sulfur. If you smell sulfur in a FINISHED BREW: 1️⃣ DO NOT stir up the lees. Instead, swirl a piece of sanitized copper wire in for about 10 minutes. The copper bonds to the sulfur, which falls to the bottom so you can rack off clean. Consider it a last resort. Have you had success with any of these methods in a stinky batch? #meadmaking #homebrewing #winemaking #homemadewine #mead #honeywine
