I want to make something very clear. This is a safe place for DIYers, new nail technicians and experienced nail techs working with a limited budget to ask questions. ❤️ I know why products like these are appealing. They’re affordable, they’re fun, and the idea of creating hundreds of colors from just five bottles sounds fantastic! I am not here to make you feel stupid for buying them, using them or wanting to save money. I want you to understand what you’re working with and what questions you should be asking the companies selling these products. You shouldn’t need a chemistry degree to do your nails safely at home. You should be able to trust that the company selling you gel products has done the appropriate testing and can tell you exactly how to use them safely, including which lamp has been tested with their products. Please ask questions here. Even the ones you think might sound silly. I would much rather help you understand something before you develop an allergy than hear from you afterward, wishing someone had told you. I want you to enjoy doing nails. I want you to be creative, have fun and save money where you can. I also want you to have healthy skin and nails while you’re doing it. There is absolutely nothing wrong with being a beginner or having a limited budget. Your health matters just as much as anyone else’s. ❤️ #nailproductsafety #nailsathome #naileducation #nailtechnician #nailtok

I think this is something we should all be able to agree on, whether you’re a professional nail technician or someone who enjoys doing their own nails at home. You deserve to know whether your lamp is properly curing the products you’re using. You deserve accurate information from the companies selling those products, and you deserve clear instructions on how to use them safely. I’m curious how many of us agree on this one simple thing. ❤️ #NailProductSafety #NailTech #DIYNails #GelNails #HealthyNailsCollaborative

We can all agree that we love beautiful nails. I spent my career doing them, and I still love seeing what people create. What I hate seeing is people develop nail product allergies because nobody taught them how to use these products safely. I believe we can change that, and I want DIYers to be part of the conversation. Somewhere along the way, selling products and creating trends became more important than teaching people how to use them responsibly. We have brands demonstrating techniques that put uncured products directly on skin, influencers repeating those techniques, and people being told that a gel is safe because it is HEMA-free. A product being sold to you, or demonstrated by the company that sells it, does not automatically make the way you are using it safe. Brands need to take responsibility for the education they provide. Doug Schoon explains in his latest book why nail products must be used as intended. Complete, closed systems matter. Products are formulated and tested to work together. Mixing and matching different brands means you are using combinations that may never have been tested. Your gel also needs the lamp recommended for that system. There is no universal lamp that knows which formulation, photoinitiators, pigmentation or application thickness you have put inside it. And this is important: GEL CAN GET HARD BEFORE IT IS PROPERLY CURED. Just because it feels hard when you take your hand out of the lamp does not mean the product has reached an adequate degree of cure. Undercured gel can leave reactive ingredients behind and increase the risk of developing an allergy. Uncured nail products do not belong on your skin. Repeated exposure can lead to allergic sensitization. Once you develop an allergy, changing brands or buying something labeled HEMA-free does not erase it. Other ingredients can cause reactions too. I have been dealing with contact dermatitis myself for six years. I know how miserable skin reactions are, and I want to prevent more people from going through this. That is why I founded the Healthy Nails Collaborative. Everything on our website is FREE. You do not have to buy a product or be a professional to learn about nail product safety. The Nail Allergy Navigator helps explain allergies, sensitization, and exposure. If you suspect an allergy, stop using the suspected products and seek medical assessment rather than experimenting on your skin. The DIY Navigator is for people doing their own nails at home. You deserve to understand proper application, curing, and product safety before you buy your first gel or lamp. The New Nail Tech Student Navigator is for people entering the profession. Learning to create beautiful nails is one thing. Learning how to protect yourself and your clients is just as important. I also encourage everyone serious about this industry to read Doug Schoon’s latest book. Knowing how to put a product on a nail is very different from understanding the chemistry behind it. Start asking brands questions. Which lamp was your gel tested with? What is the curing time? How thick can it be applied? Are the products intended to be used together? Why are you demonstrating techniques that put uncured product on skin? And DIYers, I especially want to hear from you. How did you choose your lamp? Did the brand explain correct curing and the importance of avoiding skin contact? Were you warned about allergies before you started? Please bookmark the Healthy Nails Collaborative and explore the three free Navigators. Share them with anyone who does their own nails or is training to become a nail technician. www.healthynailscollaborative.com #NailAllergies #NailProductSafety #DIYNails #HealthyNailsCollaborative #NailEducation
