🔍 Do you know how to change the default search browser on your phone? Google doesn’t want you to! At the center of this DOJ case, we’ve learned Google is making billions of dollars in payments to major phone and device manufacturers to sell their equipment with Google Search as their default option, like Google being the default search browser on iPhone’s Safari. This is the government’s first major monopoly case to make it to trial in decades, yet Google is trying to keep it quiet. The last time big tech was taken to court for monopolistic behavior was Microsoft in 1998, and the entire trial was public. Google’s lawyers have convinced the judge to close the trial to broadcast (and the general public) and are using unlimited legal resources to keep testimony, evidence, and transcripts under wraps to protect their monopoly. Unchecked, Google will continue to monopolize the tech world, underselling and eliminating competitors, promoting their own products above all others, and limiting consumer choice. Exisiting is hard right now. Our government has failed us horrifically and we need to rely on one another and build community support. So we don’t need them. We also have to take time to rest, breathe, and process. My favorite place to do that is the by the ocean. I hope the sounds of the sea can bring you a moment of peace, too. Remember to be gentle with youself and others. The collective trauma is real 🫶🏻 #beachsunset #mentalhealthmatters #lifeontiktok #tiktokpartner #communitycare #mentalhealthawareness

⬇️ Support frontline organizations and power progress in your community! ⬇️ Through December 31st, Democratizing Philanthropy’s Power Progress campaign is matching all small donations to 17 different historically excluded frontline organizations. This will DOUBLE our impact! These frontline organizations are directly addressing social issues in their communities - like worker’s and immigrant’s rights, voting rights and voter engagement, climate justice, and youth leadership development. And they’re doing this work in states where it’s needed most, like Texas, Virginia, the Carolinas, Georgia, and my home state, Florida. This year’s Power Progress campaign theme is collective liberation. The struggle for equality and justice is a shared endeavor, and we cannot be free until everyone is free. Historically excluded organizations often face barriers like limited funding, lack of representation, and systemic biases. When we use our dollars and our voices to center and support these organizations, we are directly contributing to a more just and inclusive society. Contributions, no matter how small, will be doubled to shift power and resources into our communities, and help sustain these organizations and their important work. Choose a local organization to support, or a national one, like the @Green New Deal Network, a coalition of grassroots organizations, labor, climate, and environmental justice groups working to create jobs, solve the climate crisis, and advance racial and economic justice. If you aren’t able to contribute financially, you can still make a big difference by sharing the Power Progress campaign with your network to raise awareness and drive support to these important frontline organizations.
