🕊️🕊️🕊️ Prince Rogers Nelson June 7, 1958 – April 21, 2016 Sometimes it snows in April Sometimes I feel so bad, so bad Sometimes I wish that life was never ending But all good things, they say, never last All good things they say, never last And love, it isn’t love until it’s past #restinpeace #prince4ever #hisroyslbadness #prince @prince @Paisley Park
July 17, 1976 - "More, More, More" by Andrea True Connection peaked at No.4 on the Hot 100. Born and raised in Nashville, True had moved to New York City and achieved notoriety as a porn star appearing in films with titles such as Bite, Every Inch A Lady, Hot Channels, South of the Border, The Wetter the Better, Prurient Interest, Uncontrollable Urge, and Debbie Does Las Vegas. So when she released this upbeat single, the chorus "More, More, More, how do you like it, how do you like it" became more than a little suggestive. The lyric in the song, get the cameras rollin', get the action goin', seems like a direct allusion to her X-rated escapades on the film set. True was appearing in TV commercials in Jamaica when an attempted coup took place on the island. She was looking for a way to get herself and her money back home to the USA. Resourcefully, she called upon her friend, producer Gregg Diamond, to help her get a song demo together - a way of laundering her money off of the island in the form of a master tape. Diamond reportedly wrote the now-classic song in one hour and produced the whole demo with the help of island musicians, horn section and all, which formed the backbone of the "Connection" project. All for only $1,400. Buddah Records originally released the song only to discos in the winter of 1975/1976. The popularity of "More, More, More" was immense. Widespread listener interest convinced Buddah to release the single commercially in the spring. The song peaked at No.2 on the Hot Dance Club Play. Internationally, the song hit No.1 in Canada and peaked at No.5 in the UK. After her hit single, True gave the world more, more, more music in 1977 with the single, "N.Y. You Got Me Dancing." This became True's second-biggest hit, climbing to No.27 on the Hot 100. In 1980 she released her final album, True Confessions, which was a True commercial flop. She reportedly left the musical spotlight after the need for throat surgery affecting her vocal cords all but ended her career as a singer. "I want to be remembered as someone who brought people joy with my music," said True in a VH1 interview in 2002. The song has been covered a number of times since by artists including Samantha Fox, Bananarama, Rachel Stevens, and Dannii Minogue. In 1999, Canadian band Len sampled the instrumental break in "More, More, More" and used it as the backdrop for their top-ten single "Steal My Sunshine". The song has also been used in television promotional advertisements, such as for American television series Sex and the City. The title hook line is used as a jingle by Canadian supermarket chain Save-On-Foods. #AndreaTrueConnection #thisdayinmusic #MoreMoreMore #disco #musichistory
I was moved by how much the news of Dolly Parton’s passing hit me—and even more moved by how much it hit EVERYONE. 💔 I’ve always loved a great country song, but I was never a regular country listener. Growing up in NYC during the ‘70s and ‘80s, though, country crossover hits were everywhere. Artists like Willie Nelson, Eddie Rabbitt, Crystal Gayle, The Bellamy Brothers, and Juice Newton, to name a few, regularly broke into the Top 40. Country culture was crashing into the mainstream. The Urban Cowboy phenomenon was in full swing, and Coal Miner’s Daughter brought icons like Loretta Lynn and Patsy Cline straight to the attention of a city kid like me. On TV, you had Dallas, The Mandrell Sisters’ variety show and The Dukes of Hazzard with its Waylon Jennings theme song. Standing at the center of that movement, right alongside Kenny Rogers, was Dolly Parton—her massive persona and even bigger heart shining through it all. Then came her acting debut in 9 to 5. She didn’t just hold her own—she stole scenes right out from under Jane Fonda, Lily Tomlin, and Dabney Coleman. Manhattan had cable back then, but over in Brooklyn, HBO was all we had. I must have watched 9 to 5 a bazillion times! Dolly nailed drama, comedy, and physical humor like a seasoned pro. To top it off, she wrote and performed the iconic theme song that helped the film become a cultural phenomenon. Through every success that followed, she remained so damn likable, relatable, and honorable. I’ve never heard a single person speak a bad word about her or share a negative story. We’ve all mourned legendary artists before. Let’s face it—some weren’t great people, but we mourned the talent that gave us our favorite art. But losing a legend who was also a genuinely good soul? That hits different. You feel the loss of the artist, but even more, you feel the profound loss of the person. On top of her brilliant mind, incredible talent, and legendary success, Dolly was simply a decent, generous, and kind-hearted human being. Thank you for being you, Dolly. Rest in peace. ️✨ . . . #DollyParton #IWillAlwaysLoveYou #RestInPeace #Legend #SingerSongwriter @Dolly Parton
