What uses more water, almonds or every data center in North America? It's not close. The AI water panic is aimed at the wrong target. Follow @tim_burmaster for tips on nutrition, hormones, and gut health #Shorts #almonds #wateruse #AI #metabolichealth Sources, since someone always asks: Almonds: California Water Impact Network 2024 accounting. CA almond orchards draw 4.7–5.5 million acre-feet/year (~1.6 trillion gallons). ~1.1 gallons per almond. Data centers: Lawrence Berkeley National Lab 2023 baseline (17B gallons onsite cooling + 211B gallons offsite power generation = ~228B gallons for US). The 250–330 billion North America 2025 figure escalates that baseline for buildout + Canada/Mexico. Almonds out-draw the full continental data center footprint by ~4–7x. Onsite cooling only, it's 60x+. Per-prompt AI water estimates range from ~0.3 mL (OpenAI's own) to 519 mL (UC Riverside, full lifecycle). I used the highest AI estimate and almonds still win.

Before you buy Driscoll’s strawberries again, here’s what you should know. An independent lab test found 12 pesticide residues on a conventional sample of Driscoll’s strawberries, including 8 pesticides classified by the testing group as PFAS-related. The same investigation also tested Driscoll’s organic strawberries. Zero pesticide residues were detected. This matters because conventional strawberry production can involve insecticides, fungicides, and soil fumigants. Around Watsonville, California, where Driscoll’s is headquartered, pesticide use near schools has been debated for years. Santa Cruz County also reported a childhood cancer rate that was 38% higher than the California average from 2017 to 2021. That does not prove pesticides caused those cancers, but it raises understandable questions about long-term agricultural chemical exposure. Driscoll’s is now facing a proposed class-action lawsuit related to PFAS-associated pesticide residues and its environmental marketing. The company disputes the allegations. I still eat strawberries, but this is exactly why I personally choose organic berries whenever possible. Would you choose conventional or organic? #strawberries #driscolls #organicfood #pesticides #PFAS

Protein powder is convenient, but it’s not as nutrient-dense as whole-food protein. When you get your protein from foods like meat, eggs, dairy or seafood, you’re also getting vitamins and minerals that protein powder often provides in much smaller amounts. That matters even more during weight loss. When you’re eating in a calorie deficit, you have fewer calories available to meet your protein and micronutrient needs. So replacing nutrient-dense whole foods with multiple protein shakes can make that job harder. Protein powder can absolutely have a place in your diet. I just wouldn’t build your diet around it. Whole foods first. Protein powder for convenience. Follow @timburmaster for tips on nutrition, hormones, and fat loss #ProteinPowder #HighProteinDiet #WeightLossNutrition #NutritionTips
