There’s something about Memphis at night that hits differently. Maybe it’s the Mississippi River, the lights reflecting off the water, the music coming from downtown, or just knowing there’s more history around you than you realize. This view is along the Memphis riverfront, looking toward the Hernando de Soto Bridge, the I-40 bridge connecting Memphis and West Memphis. The bridge opened in 1973, and today it’s one of the recognizable pieces of the Memphis skyline. At night, the riverfront bridges become part of Memphis’ Mighty Lights display, adding even more color to an already beautiful view. And Memphis is one of those places where the scenery comes with a story. The city’s identity is deeply connected to the Mississippi River, transportation, Black culture, blues, soul, R&B and rock ’n’ roll. Beale Street dates back to 1841 and became an important center of Black business, culture and music, eventually earning its reputation as the “Home of the Blues.” Then there’s the other side of the river: West Memphis, Arkansas. The historic connection between these two cities is literally built into the landscape. The Harahan Bridge, completed in 1916, once carried both trains and automobiles. Today, its former roadway is Big River Crossing, a nearly mile-long pedestrian and bicycle path connecting Memphis to Arkansas. So maybe I’m not just adjusting to Mid-South living… maybe I’m finally learning to slow down and appreciate the view. 🖤 Memphis, what are some low-key, high-vibe places I need to experience? I’m looking for the spots that feel like Memphis, not just the places everybody already knows. 👀 #Memphis #westMemphis #blacktravel #MidSouth
