When one of my biggest supporters reached out to me with a shoe I have yet to work with, I salivated at the opportunity! And this shoe was a perfect candidate for an upcycle: a 20-year-old Nike Air DT Max 96 with a crumbled sole, and it was also an incomplete pair (right shoe only). I sat on the shoe for awhile with several other projects in front of it that needed completion, but I knew once I got to it, the project would be special. I had a bit of sentimental connection to this specific model. As a teenager in the 90s, my crew always had the freshest pairs. We especially loved anything Air Max, and we’d always compete with who had the dopest kicks. My best friend D Rock (RIP) had the original version of this pair (Nike Air DT Max 96) back in ‘96. I remember him rocking these back home on the courts we lived at, jacking up 3s (yeah we did everything in our sneakers back then). So this project would, in my heart, kinda serve as a big up to my late homie. Design wise, I wanted to both push the limits of my creativity and see how far I could take things, while also sticking to my philosophy of keeping it simple. I always try to respect the original design of the shoe in my pieces, highlighting and incorporating the elements of the shoe that make it unique, while coming up with an original design and style for the upcycled piece I create from it. I think I nailed both with this one. The final result is a dope one of a kind handcrafted cardholder wallet and matching money clip🔥 My VIP client was satisfied, and so was I. #upcycling #sneakers #handmade #1of1
