#stitch with @Aren Yeager GENE THERAPY FOR SICKLE CELL… IS IT REALLY THAT SIMPLE? 🧬🩸🤔 For the longest time, I thought gene therapy meant going from having Sickle Cell (SS) to becoming AA, but I’ve learnt there’s a LOT more to it than that. I stitched a video of someone who’s undergone gene therapy and is still experiencing pain two and a half weeks later. 💔 It really made me think about how complicated this treatment actually is. Gene therapy offers incredible hope for people living with Sickle Cell, but it’s not as simple as going into hospital, getting treated and walking out completely pain free. There’s a whole process, potential risks, recovery and a lot we still need to understand about the long term outcomes. GENE THERAPY IS A HUGE STEP FORWARD BUT IT’S NOT A MAGIC WAND. 🧬❤️‍🩹 I’m not against it. I just believe we need to have honest conversations about what it involves, what it can achieve and what life might look like afterwards.
