A true power couple. When first I reached out to shoot - I didn’t have any idea what direction it would take. We first hopped in a side by side, headed down to a river by their house to skip some rocks. Then got into the pristiiine Corvette. Cole said “I know a spot” and floored it on the backroads with the windows down. Truly floored it - as the professional racer he is. I got to tag along in the backseat and shoot photos as they just did their usual thing. I gravite towards capturing what’s going on, not so much a stylazied shoot - you end up with authentic emotions and moments. Self portrait super 8 shots! I set the timer and have 10 seconds to run into position. If I’m close, I hear the camera start rolling - easy. If I’m far, I count to 10 in my head and hope the camera is rolling. If I mess up the scene, I’m forced to sit there listening to the camera run for 10 more seconds - eating up footage. The best part - I don’t even know if I got the shot until later. I go home and wrestle with 50ft of film. In the dark splashing chemicals around - after I know I scratched the hell out of the film pulling it out of the cartridge. I let it dry, run it through a 50 year old project and fight with getting the right speed to avoid shutter flicker. export a frame of the sequence, invert it, create a photo preset, convert it to a video preset, and add final tweaks to each scene. And then this is what you get. Keeping the 1980 Yamaha IT175 two stroke running is another thing. DIY. #super8film #motionpicture #filmphotographer #filmlab #filmprocessing
