I often get questions about the difference between my day chair and my tennis chair so i thought this video might help! VD: letty is a young white person with short blonde hair. They are wearing a dark red jumper and blue jeans. They are sitting in a wheelchair next to a sports wheelchair. Text on screen reads: “day chair vs sports chair”. Letty demonstrates performance in 6 categories with both wheelchairs. Test 1: wheelies. Day chair: “its super easy to do wheelies in my day chair”. Sports chair: “i physically cant wheelie in my sports chair because of the back wheel”. (This category was tested by attempting a wheelie) Test 2: tipping backwards. Day chair: “if i lean back far enough in my day chair i will tip out”. Sports chair: “because of the back wheel im prevented from tipping out”. (This category was tested by letty leaning backwards in the chair). Test 3: spinning. Day chair: “like 270 degrees in one push”. Sports chair: “just over 360 degrees”. (This category was tested by pushing in a circle in one push and guessing how many degrees was spun). Test 4: braking. Day chair: “with my day chair i can brake with my hands and with mechanical brakes”. Sports chair: “the sports chair has no mechanical brakes at all”. (This category is tested by braking and then trying to move after braking. Test 5: leg security. Day chair: “no straps holding my legs in so they can fall off the footplate”. Sports chair: “foot, leg and pelvis straps to keep my legs in place”. (This category is tested by moving around dramatically in the chair and seeing if the legs stay put). Test 6: ramps. Day chair: “fairly easy to get up the ramp in my day chair”. Sports chair: “wheels are too wide for the ramp and the back wheel makes it hard to go up at an angle”. The video shows letty unable to get to the top of the ramp as their back wheel gets stuck. The final clip shows letty sitting in their active chair next to the sports chair. Both chairs are given 3 points. Text on screen reads: “both chairs have their own pros and cons which make them suited to their purpose!”. End VD. I cant believe how much confidence ive gained since i first started playing rugby! VD: letty isa young women in her early 20s. She is playing wheelchair rugby. A full contact 5 aside sport played in reinforced wheelchairs. the first 3 clips are from 2 years ago - she lacks confidence and speed. Whenever she has the ball she is looking to pass it to someone else. Then as the beat drops the videos switches to videos from the latest rugby season. Letty has much more confidence and speed, she is one of the main ball carriers so looks to beat her opponents rather than pass the ball off. The clips show her scoring, bashing into other players when the opposition has the ball and dodging the opposition. End VD. Flying with my wheelchair scared me too much to travel for almost 4 years! There is obviously still a genuine risk of airlines damaging my chair every time i fly, but i do as much as i can to minimise the risk. Visual description: letty is a young white person with shoulder length blonde hair. They use a manual wheelchair. Various clips show letty boarding a plane and travelling in VietNam, Denmark, Italy & France. Notable clips are sitting in the front of a passenger bike being cycled though the streets of Hanoi, floating in the see of Ha Long bay, kayaking in the sea, and sitting infront of the eiffel tower whilst it glitters. Text on screen reads: my life now im not too scared to travel as a wheelchair user. End VD. Hashtags: #Travel #WheelchairTravel #VietNam #WheelchairLife

3 wheelchair misconceptions I had at my first wheelchair fitting. VD: letty is a young white person with a blonde bob. They are talking to the camera. At a few points they show images on screen to illustrate their point, these are: wheelchair handrims called “shove a lugs” which are round projections on the wheelchair handrims giving the user something to grip onto that wont move. They also show images comparing folding and rigid chairs. The first folding chair has the wheels and backrest on and is folded wheel to wheel so has quite a big area despite being very thin. The other chair has the backrest folded down and the wheels removed and is smaller side on but larger in the other dimensions. Its more cube like and the other one is more like a pancake. There is also another chair briefly shown on screen which combines both types of folding and so is really compact - it has the backrest folded down, wheels removed, and also folds wheel to wheel and part of the frame is folded tucked under too. I love this sport. Its everything people dont expect of disabled people. VD: compilation video of letty, who is a young white person with bob length blonde hair with 2 little plaits. They are playing wheelchair rugby at an all womens development meet. In the video they are bashing into their opponents and their opponents are bashing into them. Often players will pass just before the impact. They are all sat in reinforced rugby wheelchairs that are designed to take an impact. End VD. Replying to @Anneka Ive got some fun workshop plans for this chair! VD: Letty replies to a comment whixh reads: is that a Tilite ZR i see? letty is sat in a tilite ZR wheelchair it is brushed titanium, with black parts. Its sleek and compact. Letty goes through and describes each of the features of the chair, often whilst sat in a wheelie. The wheelchair is a almost fully welded mono frame chair. It has black plastic castor wheels, black single sided titanium castor forks, a black angle adjustable footplate, black fabric calf strap, black triride brackets, one black scissor lock brake, aluminum one piece seatplate and sideguards, black stimulite cushion, low height, slightly contoured black fabric and carbon fibre backrest by matrx. been rehabbing these 10 meters for a good reason. VD: letty is a young white person and hamish is their dad - a middle aged white man. They are stood on shingle at an estuary with a canoe in the background. Letty is being held with one arm by hamish and has a quad cane in the other hand. They are shuffle stepping towards the canoe and then lower onto a seat. They are then filmed from above sat in the canoe talking. They show they are sat on a wheelchair cushion on their bench, have their manual wheelchair sat behind them, and one of the wheels is behind their back with another wheelchair cushion on it making a backrest. They have their quad cane in the front and carbon fibre AFOs on their feet. Theres an ikea bad in the front for bum shuffling if needed. Letty says: all good to go! and the camera pans towards the sea. As the music starts, the video changes to be short clips of the views canoe trip. Water flowing over rocks in the shallows, the seven sisters cliff faces, a swan walking off the river onto the bank, a view of the sky with a paddle moving across it, a hill with a blue sky and pink clouds in the background, hamish smiling whilst paddling, the sun reflecting on the water, sun setting over the hills, the reeds looking bright orange in the dusk, and silhouetted grasses on the river bank against the fading light. Wheelchair skills dont remove inaccessibility, but they can make access issues workable. Having confidence in my wheelchair skills gives me confidence in life. I cant trust that peoples access is up to standard but I can trust in my ability to wheelie, hop curbs, and tackle steps. ID: Letty is a young white person with bob length blonde hair half up in space buns. The video opens on an empty bathroom which looks very small. Letty enters the frame going backwards down a small step in their wheelchair. They are controlling this descent by holding onto the door frame with both hands. They then do a wheelie and to turn towards the camera. When they tried to turn not in a wheelie their front castors caught the step. Whereas in a wheelie their castors where above the step. The camera cuts to letty doing the same in reverse - they wheelie into position facing out the door and then pull up on the frame to lift them and the wheelchair up through the door. End VD. For the children who were banned from their access to the world. Who where forced to speak with hands on their jaws and vinegar in their mouths. You deserved better. VD: a montage of photos from the history of oralism - mainly centred in the US (oppression of deaf sign language users by forcing them to speak instead of sign). The photos start out in black and white. They show deaf schools where oralsim was being enforced. Kids are being taught to speak by holding their own and others voice boxes. There are screenshots from the milan 1880 conference which banned sign language, and alexander graham bells role in this - advocating for a complete ban. There are children using headphones and other amplification devices. The tone shifts halfway through, there are photos of young deaf children signing, newspaper clippings of a national deaf club, and various photos from two major protests - for gallaudet university to have a Deaf president, and for the UK to legally recognise BSL. Signs have slogans like: Deaf power, ASL is my language, our language our right. As the photos progress they become colour photographs and increasingly colourful. End VD.
