Marcus Aurelius was a Roman emperor and Stoic philosopher who ruled from 161 to 180 CE. Known as the “philosopher king,” he wrote Meditations as a private journal, reflecting on discipline, virtue, and inner strength. Socrates was an ancient Greek philosopher born around 470 BCE in Athens and is considered the founder of Western philosophy. He taught through questioning rather than lectures, believing that wisdom begins with recognizing one’s own ignorance. Tried for corrupting the youth and impiety, he accepted death rather than abandon his principles, making him a lasting symbol of intellectual integrity. #socrates #philosophy #stoic #greek

Plato was an ancient Greek philosopher born around 428 BCE in Athens and a devoted student of Socrates. Deeply affected by his teacher’s execution, he turned his focus toward understanding justice, truth, and the nature of a good society. He later founded the Academy in Athens, one of the earliest centers of higher learning in the Western world, where he taught students through dialogue and critical thinking. His writings, especially works like The Republic, explored ideas about ethics, politics, and the concept of ideal forms—arguing that the physical world is only a shadow of a higher, more perfect reality. Through his philosophical dialogues, Plato shaped the foundations of Western philosophy and influenced countless thinkers, including his most famous student, Aristotle. #plato #philosophy #stoic #meditation #greek
