1: I went to class. Attending your science classes is one of the single best long-term strategies for MCAT success. It builds the foundation that you’ll need when you start studying. Trust me, self-studying new concepts is a lot harder than it sounds. I don’t care if your lecture’s at 8am, I don’t care if attendance is optional. Go to class. And take a few upper division bio classes and psych classes while you’re at it. 2: I used FLASHCARDS, FLASHCARDS, FLASHCARDS. I cannot emphasize this enough. The MCAT tests an insane number of tiny details that you will NOT remember unless you study them with active recall. Use a set that allows you to rate your performance on each flashcard and make sure you’re improving over time. A bit of reading is fine to learn a few concepts or brush up on material, but the vast majority of your review should be flashcards. 3: I took several party full-length practice tests. Buy some and take them to build up your endurance. DO NOT worry about the score or if you missed questions on some specific low-yield concept. Depending on the brand, it might be 8 or 10 points lower than your true score range and way more difficult. I think my highest third party test score was a 514. Take it and forget it. And 4: I took all AAMC full length tests very seriously. These are absolutely critical. Buy all four. DO NOT take them until you have thoroughly prepared and are 6-8 weeks out from the exam at most. Unlike the third party tests, these are devastatingly accurate score predictors. Your actual score is extremely likely to be very close to the average of your AAMC practice tests. #mcat #premed #mcatprep #premedadvice #premedmotivation
