Replying to @thegildedscorpion Dapple Willow Shrub 1 year update. These are some of my favorite shrubs! We have 7 in total throughout our yard! It’s been 1 year since I planted these along our fence and they are filling in perfectly! I think they are a little smaller than they should have been because we had an extremely late freeze the spring that really hurt a lot of our plants. 🎃 WRIGHTS HALLOW IS BACK! 💀 Kicking off my 2026 DIY Halloween prop build series by giving Rotting Jack a completely new face! Rotting Jack, my 6-foot-tall jack-o’-lantern monster, needed a serious rebuild this year - so I started from scratch and carved him a completely new head out of foam. One of my favorite things about making large-scale Halloween props is figuring out how to turn simple materials into something completely different. A few blocks of foam, a hot wire cutter, and a LOT of carving later… Jack is starting to come back to life. And this is only the beginning. I’ll be sharing the builds, techniques, successes, mistakes, and probably a little chaos as I transform our yard into Wrights Hallow for Halloween. Every 6-foot jack-o’-lantern monster needs minions… right? Rotting Jack needs a little help this Halloween, so I’m making him THREE jack-o’-lantern minions, each with its own shape, face, and personality. Just like Jack, these guys started as simple blocks of foam. I carved and hollowed each pumpkin by hand, added PVC pipe adapters that will be used later to attach their vine arms and legs, then hard coated, sanded, and base coated them black to start bringing all those carved details to life. One of my favorite parts of DIY Halloween prop making is figuring out how to take basic materials and turn them into something completely different. I love carving props or art pieces out of foam. I’m sharing as much of the foam prop making process as I can along the way, the techniques that work, the things I figure out as I go, and probably a few mistakes too.
