Weeks 5–8 of our Citizens Police Academy gave participants an even deeper look into the training, tactics, and investigative work that go into modern policing. Over the past few weeks, academy members learned about use of force principles, defensive tactics, less lethal options, and firearms training, including the opportunity to safely experience simulation rounds under the guidance of our officers. 💪🚔 Participants also stepped into the investigative side of law enforcement, learning how detectives build cases through interviews, evidence collection, crime scene processing, and fingerprint collection. 🔍🧬 We’re grateful to everyone participating in this year’s academy and love seeing the engagement and enthusiasm each week as they continue learning more about the work our officers do every day. #WillistonPD #CitizensPoliceAcademy #CommunityEngagement #PublicInformation #DefensiveTactics #Investigations #CrimeScene #PoliceTraining #LawEnforcement

The Williston Police Department recently utilized our Drone Team to assist officers in locating and apprehending an individual with multiple outstanding Class AA Felony warrants related to Gross Sexual Imposition. On May 5, 2026, officers were actively searching for the wanted subject after receiving information that he was hiding near an open field on the city’s west side. WPD Drone Team Leader Sgt. Flesness responded and deployed a drone equipped with thermal imaging technology to assist in the search. During the operation, a heat signature was observed moving through a dark field while attempting to use trees and other objects for concealment. Officers on the ground were directed to the area and successfully took the subject into custody without incident. This incident highlights the continued value of drone technology in assisting law enforcement operations by helping officers quickly locate dangerous individuals and safely support active investigations. The Williston Police Department also wants to reassure the public that drones deployed by the department are used strictly for legitimate public safety purposes. These tools are not used to invade privacy or violate anyone’s Fourth Amendment rights.
