#raceforlife2026 #cancerresearchuk #lungcancer #wemissyou #mumsoftiktok On the 26th of July, Mercedes ran in honour of my mum — her beloved nan — who we sadly lost last year to stage 4 advanced lung cancer. She trained every single day for months, determined to make her proud.But just five minutes into the race, Mercedes suffered a severe tear to the ligaments and tendons in the top of her foot. The pain was overwhelming, and for a moment she truly thought she wouldn’t be able to continue.Then something incredible happened. Her strength, her determination, her adrenaline — and most of all, the memory of her nan — pushed through. Mercedes refused to give up. She carried on, fighting through every step,and not only finished the race… she beat her usual time by five minutes and raised £291.34 in her nan’s honour.As her parents, and alongside her sisters, we couldn’t be prouder of her. What she did showed courage, heart, and love beyond measure. And I know, without any doubt, that Mum would be bursting with pride too.
