Replying to @DADA TICK You can apply for citizenship after acquiring indefinite leave or settled status. The criteria will depend on your residence in the UK or marriage to a British citizen. There are a number of requirements to be met and having a British child can demonstrate ties to the UK or compassionate reasons. Replying to @Nina kazane Your overseas partner may qualify for a UK spouse visa under the adequate maintenance criteria. That criteria is based on you, the sponsor, being in receipt of a qualifying State benefit. If so, you/ your partner are excluded from the minimum income requirement of £29,000. The government's "one in, one out" scheme is to end. The scheme enabled the UK to return undocumented entrants from small boat to France. In return, the UK would accept the same number of people from France who were believed to have a legitimate claim for entry. The scheme was seen as a replacement for legal provisions that existed when the UK was part of the EU. With Brexit, those arrangements ended. According to the Home Secretary Shabana Mahmood, the one in, one out scheme cost, on average, £56,000 per person. Yet, it was supposed to cost an average of £48,800 per person Added to that, the BBC reports that only around 1,500 people have been removed to France since the scheme began just over a year ago in August 2025. Shabana Mahmood noted that the scheme had been "difficult" to scale up and the numbers involved were still "relatively small". Rather than creating policies that pander to sections of the population, maybe it’s time for well thought out, properly costed, and effective policies to be implemented. Both the Rwanda and one in, one out policies have costs the UK taxpayer a lot of money while achieving very little!
