UBIDS Hosts Second IGVI Conference at Royal Cosy Hills Hotel, Jirapa The University of Business and Integrated Development Studies (UBIDS), through its Centre for Gender, Diversity and Social Inclusion, led by Professor Constance Akurugu, in partnership with the Institute of Global Value Inquiry (IGVI), has hosted the Second IGVI Conference. Held from 7–9 September 2026 at the Royal Cosy Hills Hotel, popularly known as Jirapa Dubai, in Jirapa, the three-day conference brought together scholars from across the globe to explore the theme, “Indigenous Values and Social Change,” alongside the sub-theme, “African Feminism(s) and Indigenous Values in a Precarious Global Women’s Movement.” Opening the conference, the Vice-Chancellor of UBIDS, Professor Emmanuel Kanchebe Derbile, welcomed participants and emphasised the dynamic nature of indigenous knowledge systems, while calling for deeper cultural understanding of gender issues in the face of changing global realities. The keynote address, delivered by Professor David Miller, Founder of Millar Open University, examined “Ancestorcentrism, Totems, and Social Change: The Dagara Paradigms of Life.” He highlighted Saakonu (Sankofa) as a principle of drawing from the past to inform sustainable social change. The conference also featured scholarly contributions from renowned academics, including Professor Oyèrónkẹ́ Oyěwùmí of Stony Brook University, USA, and Professor Sylvia Bawa of York University, Canada. The conference further strengthens UBIDS’ growing role as a platform for global scholarly dialogue on indigenous values, gender, social change, and inclusive development. 🌍📚 #UBIDS #IGVIConference2026 #indigenousvalues #education #src
